NO comparison. Altar Boyz is fun. And easily forgotten. (But if you do you'll have a good time.)
But SP is, perhaps, the closest thing to theatrical perfection I have ever seen. As another poster said, going into it, I was not the biggest SP fan, and, in fact, almost gave up my seat to see something else...and I was totally won over.
**** POSSIBLE SPOILER **** I think the beauty of the production lies in the fact that without changing the script, they were SO able to bring the racism to the foreground in ways I've never seen achieved before with this piece. So touching and heartbreaking, so ever present. It is one of the few shows I've ever seen that I found to be truly FLAWLESS.
HOWEVER, at this late date tickets for SP may be very difficult to obtain for next weekend. I would think near impossible. But, EVERY bit worth the money!!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
