Hello All:
I've collected 20 + Spanish cast recordings but I am always looking for more. I seem to be at a standstill in my search. I've bought everything I could find on Dresscircle, eBay, Amazon US and UK, and Footlight. PLEASE point me to some more sites where I can find Spanish recordings. Doesn't matter in what city the show was preformed, as long as they're singing in Spanish. Any help appreciated! Besos!!

I have a few, ask me what you need...
That Gypsy recording is quite bad, btw.
EDIT: I left a few in a friend's house, now that I checked. But I have the Mexican cast of Phantom of the Opera and JCS, Spain's Evita, A Mexican musical version of Houdini, at the moment.

Posted: 10/17/05 at 11:57pmI knew about the Disney animated films but I so didn't know about all those great musicals like Kiss of the Spider Woman and Chicago had been recorded in Spanish, that's so amazing. I'm actually getting a certificate in Translation Studies so maybe one day I'll get to translate some of the new shows, who knows, hehe?

Posted: 10/18/05 at 5:00pmI have the Spanish recording of EVITA starring Paloma San Basilio and her version of "No Llores Por Mi Argentina"
#12re: Spanish cast recordings - HELP!
Posted: 10/18/05 at 6:08pmAwww, I used to have "No Llores Por Mi Argentina" in my computer! Paloma San Basilio has such a powerful voice, my mom introduced me to this song and she just gets very emotional when she listens to it. I'm actually taking her to see the Evita tour when it comes to FL next month.

I have quite a few including the Argetine Kiss of the Spider Woman recording with Valeria Lynch which I bought on my trip to Buenos Aires. If I remember correctly, it was recorded live. I even have some really interesting ones like You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Martin Guerre and Falsettos. I even have a rather bizarre Spanish recording of Big that is obviously prerecorded backtracks with live, and rather weak, singing. I have no idea where it originated.
ChrisLovesShows - I saw the Madrid production of El Hombre de la Mancha. It was PAINFUL! Prerecorded music and a production where it was obvious the director knew NOTHING about the concept of the show. Let's just say the first act ended (yes, there was thankfully an intermission) with a DREAM WEDDING of Aldonza and Don Quixote with the rest of the cast elaborately costumed as guests. We shot out of there like a rocket at intermission and never looked back.

Chris:
I am intrigued: who sings in the Sunset Blvd. recording you own? I had no idea it has been produced in Spanish.
As for info, there is a yahoo group "solo_musicales' in which posters usually offer their collections for sale or exchange.
The Silvia Pinal Gypsy is only interesting as a preservation of the show, but as a recording it is pretty lackluster. I have many recordings but sadly, they are stored back home and I don't know when I;ll be able to get my hands on them. Just for reference, I have things like Annie Get Your Gun, Mame, Annie, Robin Hood, Que Planton, La Cage Aux Folles, Cats and Nunsense, all Mexican Cast.

JMVR,
I bought the CD of Sunset Blvd. on eBay and, although it was presented as an original recording, it looks like a copy. The seller clearly made the "booklet" on a home computer. So, I only have the track list, but no cast members or singers are listed. There are some nice voices, but some, like Norma unfortunately, struggle to stay on key!

Posted: 10/27/05 at 12:52amThe original Mexico City cast recording of MI BELLA DAMA (My Fair Lady) features a young Placido Domingo as one of the Cockneys who back up Doolittle on "A Little Bit of Luck".

Posted: 10/27/05 at 2:26amWho stars as Eliza though? I can't believe Placido Domingo was just one of the cockneys, nice to know.
