I was wondering how much tickets will be for the Spiderman musical.

Will the producers take into account the economy or will they say the hell with it & charge an arm & a leg. I bet on the latter

Anyone else care to venture an answer.

If the economy does not improve good luck

Even if it did I doubt very seriously paying $ 130 or more. It seems like it would be a project for Vegas than for Broadway but to each his own.

Isn't this a $40 million production?

If that number is right, that's ridiculous. No, beyond ridiculous.

After 15 million, it went beyond ridiculous to insane.

There is no doubt ticket prices will be insane or above the current norm...let alone the premium prices. Taymor. U2/Bono. They are going to reach for the stars. And if the product is on the mark...they may well get it!

In todays economic climate good luck

This is overblown theater & it sort of a symbol of our excesses which led us to where we are today.

I assume the producers plan to recoup at about the same time as the automakers repay their "loan".

I know from many sources that the $40 million quote is waaaayyy high. People were laughing when the Daily news posted that. However, expect the prices to be high.

Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

As bad as I will/would feel for the cast/crew if the show turns out to be bad and flops....
I REALLY WANT THIS ONE TO FLOP! Come on can we be realistic. Spiderman... really. I'm a huge comic fan and of the films but come on!
That and if its a sucess the rest of bway will think oh... if they're top regular price ticket is 300$ then we can charge that... and the VIP seating will be 800$

This show really is trying to push that $ sign. It seems between possible movie star leads that might actually draw crowds, U2 music that will bring in the die hard fans of the band (I don't know if you've met a die hard u2 fan but they're a bit over the top, and no i'm not saying I don't like U2.. actually I do), and Julie Taymor bringing in the theatre crowd, Not to mention the insanity and possible size of these 40 million dollar sets and costumes.
I think they've built a formula that actually might pan out, even if its the most horrifying thing you've ever seen.
Unfortunately it will also be the downfall of traditional broadway theatre as we media-ize the stage to really be the screen.

OK, Mr Roxy, keep in mind that the top ticket price for basically any show on Broadway is going to be very high, because no matter what the current state of the economy, there are always going to be people with enough money to pay full and premium prices.

Full and premium prices are there so that the people willing to pay them can subsidize those who can only pay for prices through discount codes, rushes, etc.

Not necessarily so. I have a very good friend who sells luxury travel .. trips that cost upwards of $50K. Clients are still going, but they are downsizing. Instead of the penthouse suite, they are booking regular rooms. Instead of world cruises, they are only taking segments. Instead of taking their entire families (grandchildren, aunts, uncles), they are limiting it to immediate family. Everybody is scared and being very cautious with their money, even if they have tons of it. And remember, a lot of premium tickets are purchased using company expense accounts. Everyone I know who has an expense account is having their charges closely monitored and are not allowed to spend as freely as they did a year ago. One friend was told specifically that expensive dinners and premium theatre tickets are off limits.

To Foster

I think this is a colossal mistake & they will lose their shirts. There has never been a recession like this. Whenever Wall ST comes back, it will not be the money generating engine it once was. The City & State are going to have a problem meeting their obligations. The state can move like the flash to save a money losing operation like OTB becuse it would mean 1500 jobs gone but they cannot seem to be able to tackle the problems now. Shows you where their priorities are.

And yet despite the economic downturn, the top shows such as Wicked, Jersey Boys, and Billy Elliot are playing to near capacity houses. It's not unreasonable to think that Spiderman could be one of these shows given the talent involved. Also, why do people have a problem that the source material is a comic book. What difference does it make where the source material comes from, as long as it provides a compelling, well-told story.

Wait until Obama takes office & people who thought he would miraculously resolve everything overnight realize it is going to be a long deep one.3 shows out of how many? How many shows are closing in January?

Even the hot shows will cool off as the layoffs continue. Latest on the hit parade - Bank of America 35,000 over 3 years.

Long before that, I am out of there. I think even without a recession people will not pay this. They are killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Greed permeates everything .

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

Why not $ 250? Do I hear $ 300 ?

INSANE, not Grease, is the word. We wonder why we are in the predicament we are in when these prices are being bandied about. We never learn.

We are like the recording on Mission Impossible. We will self destruct. What Obama & his band of merry men could not do we are doing to ourselves.

Yes, I'm sure - and people will pay those prices, or they won't. I see no sense in worrying about it.

I don't see why the people behind this would be even remotely confident about its success. I mean, you gotta have faith to put on a show, but spending tens of millions on this show is HARDLY a safe bet. Most Spider-Man fanboys will laugh at the idea of a Broadway musical based on him, or act like it's an abomination, because of the general glittery stigma musicals still carry. I've already heard a bunch of people say "didn't we already get too much of that sh!t in Spider-Man 3?"
