Are they going to cast Understudies and Swings for the Broadway production?
I think they need to start by casting the leads.
Hmm I just assumed the current cast was going to go right into the Broadway show. Not icluding Lea Michele and Les Mis

“Lea Michele, who plays Wendla, will appear as Eponine on Broadway this fall in Les Misérables, and Jonathan Groff, who plays Melchior, has been announced for Godspell at Paper Mill Playhouse this fall.” Courtesy of Playbill.
Hence they must either recast the leads or they must ask out of their contracts with Les Miz and Godspell respectively.
Yeah...I think that is the big current question a lot of people are wondering, what the two of them are going to do.
I just join cuz I have been reading the post about Lea Michele and what she is going to do about Les Mis and Spring awakening.....I personally think she would be CRAZY not to stick with Spring Awakening! To create an ORIGINAL role in a NEW broadway show is like every actors DREAM...well those you want to be on Broadway,,,lol...She would be nuts to let Spring Awakening open on Broadway with someone else in HER role!....hope she can get outta that contract for Les Mis
She must decide which show she would rather do. But the decision is ultimately that of the Les Miz producers as to whether or not she would be let out of her contract. She can not just pick Spring Awakening and not show up to work when Les Miz rehearsals start.

GODSPELL is a limited run - that's not a conflict.
and she hasn't signed her LES MIZ contract yet.
Good to hear! LEA DON"T SIGN IT!!!!!!!!.....
Are you sure about that? I have no personal knowledge about it, but everyone seems to be under the impression that shes signed sealed and delivered.
What about the rest of the cast. Anyone know who is staying with the show?
Zachary - the producers would not have released the information that she is going to be in Les Miserables unless she had already signed under contract. No information is every made public until it is in writing between the producers and the performer.
I know Lea Michele is going to be staying with Spring Awakening.

that's so very naive of you, kenmarksnj
what's in writing and what's announced on playbill or wherever are very different things
Lea Michelle and Jonathan Groff are both going to do SPRING AWAKENING on Broadway. They are being released from their contracts with LES MIZ and Paper Mill.
There has been some rumour that the two adult leads are being recast for Broadway, but it appears that most of the ensemble is going to the Eugene O'Neill.
They already added two understudies late in the run at the Atlantic, but yes, of course, they will be adding more for the Broadway run.
P.S. - Since people are debating how/if actors are able to get out of their pending Broadway contracts: Equity states that performers can get out of their contracts with no penalty if they give their resignation at least two weeks prior to the first rehearsal.

Kate Burton for Spring Awakening on Broadway!
I mean... what?
I too heard that they are all transfering and Les Mis is recasting Eponine.

I assumed that what kenmarknsj meant was that producers don't usually "formally" announce (in a press release or whatever) that an actor will be appearing in their show until said actor has signed a contract with them. Obviously all kinds of other information circulates ....

I also noticed that they are holding more auditions for Eponine, so it must be true that Lea is staying with Spring Awakening. Good for her. She's been involved with the show since it's beginnings, she should see it through to Broadway. Personally, I find it a far more exciting project than the revival of Les Mis.
Yep, Lea's definitely staying with "Spring Awakening".

Personally, if I was Lea I would have left to be in Les Mis, but of course it is her decision and I respect that. I wonder who is going to play Eponine now.
I bet somehow someway Eden will be Eponine
