For my 16th birthday, I'm taking friends to see Spring Awakening. I want to get on-stage seats because 1-they're cheaper and 2- I think it would be really cool to sit there
For those of you have been in those seats, how is the view? Do you miss a lot? So far I haven't seen any complaints on them. Also, is sitting on the left side better than the right or vis versa?
You're gonna get a lot of varied answers, but I personally loved it. It was unlike any other theater experience I've ever had, and the cost of occasionally seeing backs to me was worth it to have the actors sitting next to me and to be so close to the experience that is happening on stage.
I'm gathering that where you sit on stage might matter, not in terms of which side of the stage you are on but more how far away from the orchestra you are. I was as far away from the orchestra I can be, aisle seat near the audience, and I didn't feel like the music was too loud or that I missed lyrics, but I think people who sit closer to the orchestra complain more of that aspect.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
Yeah, since the tickets haven't gone on sale yet for January I figured I'd have more of a choice of where to sit. I'm buying 8 tickets so I'm trying to get an idea of which seats I want to stay clear of.
It most likely won't be open in January. There is almost no advance for this show. Too bad, it's an amazing piece of theatre!
I'm not sure I'd force my friends to sit on stage unless they are all comfortable with it. It would be better to sit on stage if it was the 2nd time you are seeing the show. You will miss alot of the beautiful stage pictures...

"I did not sit on stage, but it looked incredibly comfortable. I want to watch a show, not watch the audience watching a show watching me. Up to you. "
xM3- Tix for January are on sale. I bought six tix at the Box Office last week. Even though they show on the telecharge website you will get a message saying there are no seats available. On stage seats are only available at the box office. I don't understand why telecharge does not have a message to that effect. Many people think they are sold-out or not available yet. Good luck. The show is awesome and I can't wait to see it onstage.
I'm so confused now. I'm able to purchase on-stage for December through telecharge, but not for any other month. The lady from Telecharge asked someone and said that they weren't on sale yet. Um, ok... so you are able to purchase tickets for January at the box office? Maybe I should just go to the city and buy them there?
Ok, so I just talked to my dad and he thinks that we should just buy regular tickets for the show. Do you think that something like Row H to the left is better than Mezzanine Row C-- sorry I'm so annoying, I just really want things to go well. Thank you!
ugh... the onstage seats were not uncomfortable.. the leg room was the same as the front mezz, and seeing those audience members is no different that being in a thrust or arena staging setting at all.
Thy are the same chairs uses by the cast during the show..
Munk, that wasn't directed you.. more just frustration with people who think being able to audience members is completely distracting.... hope they don't sit behind anyone in any seat in the house since seeing people distracts them so...
From my view in the front orchestra, I felt almost embarrased for those on stage. I wouldn't want to watch a show where some cast members are sitting and singing next to me. I don't know...

Embarrased? MANY others how have used similar devices, though of course to such a great extent.. but nonetheless. It really make for a full EXPERIENCE as opposed to a VIEWING. You are SO much in the world of it all and the impact of the performances is that much stronger I felt.
I have been in the mezzanine at that theatre and the onstage seats were preferable. The leg room was the same, but the seats themselves are much tighter in the mezz... at 5'8" and 130lbs, *I* felt like the mezz is too tight. And with the onstage seats, you must put your belongings in a locker, not sit on coats or stuffing things below the seat like upstairs...
is there any difference sitting on stage on the left side versus right? also what would be a better view, sitting in the front row but upstage, or last row but downstage?
Downstage (closer to the audience) is closer to the actors. On the left, you get a better view of Lea's chest, on the right, a better view of Jon Groff's ass. That's the only REAL difference.
I'm either going to sit onstage on the left so I can be closer to Lea, or I'll sit in the orchestra I'm sure hoping for the onstage left seats when I go...
I also hope the seats wont be hard to get since I will be going at the end of the month, and with the rave reviews and all!
first of all, you need to address those sides using stage left or stage right.. which you are not.. so you'd end up on the side you don't want anyway... but whatever... second of all, when i had those seats, i asked the guy if the open seats were stage left or right and he had no idea what those terms meant.. he could only say evens or odds.
jsands5, take either row, more downstage. i had stage left (even) in the second row and it was great. i felt like the action was directed more towards my side.. what with the cast climbing over the wall and all.... and specific questions, PM me.
Hm.. They definitely have lots of on-stage seats left for the end of January, right? My mom is now saying she would rather just drive in and buy them but she's been trying to call the Box Office to make sure they even have--but they haven't been picking up.
