Has anyone seen or heard any of the Spring Awakening understudies performing? And how were they?

Gideon Glick was out once. The male ensemble member/background singer went on for him. Apparently he did a fine job.

Krysta Rodriguez - Ilse

She was pretty good...although this was one of the characters that I think would have benefited from a little more development book wise. The character sort of pops in as "hey, I was beaten as a kid, and now I'm a gypsy...listen to me sing and reminisce about the times i've spent together with everyone." this and the martha beating scene popped out of nowhere imo.

I still love the show, and have been listening to the soundtrack a lot.

I was there when Gideon Glick was out (the 18th of this month). Robert Hager did a fine job in every way and has a really sweet voice, but looks a little too young and innocent for me to be comfortable during "The Word of Your Body (Reprise)". Hanschen just seemed far too lecherous.

Then again, that's the only time I saw the show, so I don't know how the scene plays with Glick.

Honestly, I think all the secondary characters could have used more attention. I hated Melchior and Wendla.

hun, they are all young. robert hager is about the average age of the cast. lol.

robi is a college freshman, but he is shortish, so i can understand thinking he looked younger.

I understand that - but just compare the headshots of Gideon Glick and Robert Hager on the cast page:

He's a fabulous actor and singer, but he looks about 12 years old, which was kind of skeevy when Wright looks twice his size and age. It just made me uncomfortable and seemed as if Hanschen was taking advantage of him.

i didn't get that at all. They are the same age.

as far as him being "shortish"... watch it buddy! Im the same height and build!

I heard somewhere that Lea has been sick...I'm seeing the mattine tommorow, any word about if she'll be in? And if not, any word about Wendla's understudy?

I wanna see more of Gerard Canonico.
Oh wait you're talking about in the show.

I thought the point of that one scene was that the older boy was taking advantage of the younger one.
(thought he doesn't seem to mind)

On the SA facebook group, people are saying Lea hasn't been coming out of the stage door because she's sick. I'm seeing it wednesday too and I'm just worried it'll turn into something more and she'll be out.

i meant the ladies in shows i've done with him lol...don't worry. i'm a victim to it as well lol :-P

yeah, lea definitely didn't come out saturday afternoon. i was out there a looong time and she didn't come out

if you've "done shows" with someone in the show, why did you (have to) wait at the stage door?

zach, not everyone wants to be herded into a cramped waiting cell backstage after a show and fight the crowd. sometimes, it is easier to wait outside and a bit away from the madness.

I'm guessing Krista. I think it would make more sense to pull Krista who is the designated understudy, then have two understudies go on.

Krysta only understudies Ilse. Phoebe understudies Wendla/Ilse.

krysta is now the second cover for wendla after they determined that jennifer damiano was too young to perform the role'srequirements.

Jennifer Damiano is only 15. She was pulled for the Wendla understudy during previews because she was to young to do on stage nudity.

yeah, it was easier to just wait for my friends to come out because they knew i was waiting for them....and it was fun talking to a lot of the other members of the cast while i waited for my friends...i appreciate how the cast is very down-to-earth.

Bumping this. I saw this in its third preview with the whole cast in. I now have tickets for a Thursday and am wondering if this is a day that is full of understudies? I know that many are in college and sometimes can't make performances. Anyway, I'm acknowledging the fact now that it was stupid of me to buy tickets BEFORE asking, but what can ya do. So, anyone know?
