Stage Door Questions

HI,
I will be in New York in May and was curious about the stage door habits of the following actors- Do they come out, what will they do- pictures, signing and about how long does it take them to get out:
Cinderella:
Harriet Harris

Annie:
J. Elaine Marcos and Clarke Thorell

Pippin:
Terrence Mann and Andrea Martin

I'll Eat you last:
Bette Midler

Also, how crowded crazy are the stage doors?

Thanks very much in advance!

Harriet Harris does but she can be really nasty.

huh, I had a very different experience with Harriet Harris. I stage-doored after a matinee, and though she took a while to come out, I thought she was very kind.

I'm glad she was nice to you. She was anything but to me and two of my friends who went on different nights. But like anyone, I'm sure she has her good days and her bad days.

She was more than friendly to me after the show. She complimented me on my Giselle pin (she thought it was Cinderella and I chose not to correct her) and seemed pleased when I mentioned enjoying "It Shoulda Been You" during its run at the George Street Playhouse.

When I went she came out and made a big deal about I WILL ONLY SIGN FOR FOUR PEOPLE. FOUR! She picked four random people then left in what was almost a "huff" at being bothered. It was really awkward and weird.

I'm sorry that happened. Maybe if she had really seen you she would have not only signed but invited you out for some Junior's hot chocolate.

LOL, Eris. It was no big deal to me but it was just weird since there were a lot of little kids who were like "WTF??"

ha, well maybe she was staying in character so as to not break the illusion for them :P

I've stagedoored Cinderella twice. Once on a Friday night, Harriet stormed off not even acknowledging us, but the second time (After a Wednesday matinee) she came out about 20 minutes after the show ended, and signed for everyone and took pictures and seemed lovely.

I'm also curious about Bette Midler, does she come out and sign and take pictures?

I honestly would be surprised if she did- if she does- I imagine it must be CRAZY!

Harris was okay when I saw Cinderella. The one weird part was when I asked if I could get a picture with her and she said yes then she walked away and continued signing...

Oh (sorry to double post), I also stagedoored Pippin after I saw a preview back in March and Terrence Mann and Andrea Martin came out, signed, and posed for pictures. Both were very nice.

I think Bette does come out from reading another thread, however the poster also commented that it was quite crowded and she only signed a few playbills and got in her car. We'll see once she's more into the run what happens. It remains to be seen if she'll adopt the "Johansson Method" or not.

Scarlett and Katie Holmes had their reasons im sure.

i think jessica chastain spoiled us all. i have never seen any star small or as big in stature as her who was ever as gracious and generally enjoyed meeting her fans as her. Meagan Hilty , Cristin Milioti and Steve Kazee were close too.

J. Elaine Marcos sometimes has a bicycle so if she doesn't use the stage door
she leaves using a door next to it. She has always been very nice.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like more and more people are going to the stage door. A few years ago, depending on the show, maybe 10 people would wait. I couldn't get any where close to the stage door for Kinky Boots. Kinky Boots! I can't imagine how it must be at Lucky Guy or Orphans!!
Common sense? What's common about it? No one has common sense. It should be called rare sense.

I have been stage dooring for years and can really agree with this! I have noticed more and more people at stage doors now- I haven't seen as big a increase for tours/regional but defiantly Broadway shows.

I don't think Harriet Harris even signed my Playbill that I got for BC/EFA.

I agree that more people go to the stage doors, because people are probably learning more about it. But I also have to wonder if stunt casting has played a role in that, as more people who don't attend shows go to the stage door? Just a thought.

Stage Door Questions

I Can see that, half the people who are at the stage door didn't see the show, and are already lined up by the time the audience gets there- which sucks for us because we get pushed to the back

Stage Door Questions

One pattern I notice is that at the "commercial" theatres (owned by Nederlander, Shubert et. al) always have crowded stage doors, however, the non-profit theatres (Beaumont at Lincoln Center, MTC at the Friedman, Studio 54), no matter how big the stars were, the stage doors were always no more than 15-20 people (and these were shows with people like Cynthia Nixon, John Lithgow, Holland Taylor and Jim Parsons...)
