Don't know about Ben's contract, but I, too, spoke to David Garrison this weekend and he told me the same thing: he goes to Broadway and will be the Wizard starting in early April.

someone has PIRATE QUEEN (Bway) on their resume?
That is just crazy and stupid.
What if she gets replaced, how embarrassing.

Just a question - in the article it says "pre-Broadway", does anyone have any clue how long it'd take before the show gets TO Broadway?

This had better not close on the road. i really want to see Stephanie as the lead in a new musical! I'm sure she will be fabulous, but the source material seems kind of strange for a musical. Let's hope for the best!!
Congratulations, Stephanie
Congratulations, Stephanie

Agreed--BUT when you consider that the creative team reads like a Who's Who in American Musical Theatre, I think it will be great. :)
[Congratulations, Stephanie]
Seconded. Thirded! Whatever!!!

Why is this in a Chicago paper and no where in NYC?

Perhaps its because The Pirate Queen is opening in Chicago.
Whatever happened to class?

Thanks, Tiny Dancer.
I have been a great fan of Stephanie since THE BOY FROM OZ and would love to see her again onstage. I actually bought tickets to WICKED-Broadway because I thought she was going to be on it ( this was right after TBFO closed and rumors were very strong that she would be in the show on Broadway) - unfortunately ( for me), she was cast in the national tour.
Hope I don't miss the chance to see her in THE PIRATE QUEEN. When does it move to Broadway?
My best memorabilia of her is the TBFO cap that she co-signed with Hugh

"but the source material seems kind of strange for a musical."
Some of the biggest hits of all time have very odd source material
-Murderous barber whose landlady makes meat pies out of the dead customers. (Adapted from a play which was adapted from real events)
-Ex-Prisoner trying to be an honest man during French Revolution (Based on a Beloved Novel)
The life of a famous Argentinian (Based on a real person)
These all have VERY strange source materials (AND THERE ARE MANY MORE)

David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail
-Into the Fire

There are musicals out there with much more strange source material that pirates, as jacob said. I think it sounds fine.
Good for Steph!

I have been waiting all day to get back from work and reply to this...
WHHYYYYYYYYYY CHICAAAGOOOOOOOOOO?!?!?!!?
Ok, now that I've gotten that out of my system there is really nothing left to say except that I'm smiling like a fool and wishing her a lot of success with the show.

I couldn't not reply to this! but I'm very excited for this news! Can't wait to congratulate her on Monday! She deserves this:)
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block
Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

This proves living in Chicago is not so bad
.

is Chicago REALLY windy in Oct.?

We're not terribly windy in October...though it depends on the time of the month...Hell, for all I know, it might get in the seventies whenever you visit. We have strange weather here (it snowed four inches two days ago and today it thunderstormed and was about fifty). And Popular, why Chicago? Simply because we've been shown to be better for tryouts than other cities that could be considered
Heh, but seriously, I think I read an article when papers were first getting wind of the project that talked about how they decided to skip Dublin and go straight to Chicago because Chicago has a track record of being an extremely good place for tryouts. And it doesn't hurt that the Palace is a huge, gorgeous theater...perfect for Boublil-Schonberg.

Guess I'll be making a trip to Chicago this fall. I couldn't be happier for Stephanie. When I met her at the "Wicked" stage door in St. Louis she was sick but she still took time to speak to every fan! Hopefully this will be the role that will make her the Broadway star she deserves to be! Yay Steph!
