I believe it's you standing in front of me in most of my pictures from the other night, haha.

Did she say she was IN The Pirate Queen or that she IS The Pirate Queen? By the title of the thread it appears as if she is playing the lead in the show. However, in your message it appears as if she is just in the show. Did I miss something?

I'm not saying that you're wrong. Or that she didn't say that. Or that it's not true. But if a contract was already signed this thread would've been started by me! :)
Enjolras77 - you're kidding me with that question, right???

The Pirate Queen is the new Boubil/Schoenburg (sp?) show - it's supposed to star Colm Wilkinson. I don't think any details beyond that have been announced.

Not really...The actual Pirate Queen that the show is about is a female... Colm Wilkinson is going to be in the show but he is not cast as the lead (that would be scary). Has news of this already been hinted at and I am out of the loop? I just want to make sure that I haven't missed anything! Also, I don't want to give the impression that Stephanie IS the Pirate Queen until there is an official announcement.

You're right Pegasus, this is all very premature and unofficial.

If this is true, a dilemme has been created.
I really want to see Colm and this musical.
But with Stephanie...?

Article on Wilkinson/The Pirate Queen
http://arts.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_9307.php
And no, I didn't think for a moment he played *the* Pirate Queen, but whatever male lead is opposite her. Unless the writers of Les Mis and Martin Guerre are treading new ground and this is actually a gay comedy about how women and sea men don't mix.

Hehe...now that would be a great comedy! Colm Wilkinson in drag as THE pirate queen!

Sounds more like Gilbert & Sullivan than Schonberg and Boublil.

Pegasus, that article states that it opens in Dublin which is not true. It will open in Chicago. More recent articles still have him tied to the project playing the Pirate Queen's father. I would think the male lead would be the Pirate Queens love interest.

That is what I heard as well. That Colm will play her father.

If Carole is only going to be Morrible in Chicago from March-June, is Rondi leaving, or going on temporary leave or...?
And if David is only in NYC through December, when does he start?

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

If this is true then WHOO HOO!!!!! But I think I will wait for an official announcement before I book my flight to Chicago!! Stephanie - you RULE!!!!!!! CANNOT WAIT!!!!

hmm! I'd sure like to see something to back this up! I don't think Stephanie would announce it before they officially announce it. I don't know. just my gut feeling. Last I heard from her she wasn't telling anyone till it was officially announced. I'd sure like to see something in writing backing this up. Until then it's just a rumor.
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block
Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

I'm with you Gretch! I will believe it when I see an OFFICIAL announcement! Stephanie won't say anything until casting is announced by the producers! I saw her a week ago and she was asked then and I heard her say "something official will be coming out soon, I can't say until then"

Deja Vu
Remember Eden's closing night in BKLYN when she said she was doing the SF run of WICKED and even Steph didn't know that!
I didn't think any PIRATE QUEEN contracts were signed yet.
and when they are PR will tell us.

This may be irrelevent, but I saw Oklahoma in Hamilton this weekend and the very talented actress, Jennifer Waiser (Who was Little Sally in Canstage's Urinetown and Little Red in Stratford's ITW), playing Ado Annie had The Pirate Queen on Broadway in her bio. So maybe contracts have been signed but we just aren't aware of them? Her bio sounded pretty sure.

Wow Carole Shelley has been all over. Hmm maybe she'll join the London cast after she's done with the Chicago company!

F*ck yes! If this is true, it means I will have to see Pirate Queen more than once when it has it's pre-broadway try-out.
And if Carole Shelley really is going to the Chicago production of Wicked...I think I will have to drop by the Oriental Theatre.
