According to Seth Rudetsky just now on the radio. I imagine the Betty Buckley role?

Posted: 6/18/12 at 3:14pmSuper exciting! I remember she dropped a hint about starring in some new revival in a previous interview and many people here speculated that it was Drood. She's going to be great!

This will be great!
How androgynous can she look, though?

Posted: 6/18/12 at 3:20pmvery good news!! So we already have 4 musical revivals planned for the 2012-13 season: Drood, Annie, Into The Woods(99% likely) & Jekyll & Hyde.

Posted: 6/18/12 at 3:29pmWould she be Drood? I just saw this in London last week and Drood is kind of a small/boring part. I hope she's Rosa Bud instead!

SJB will be wonderful

Posted: 6/18/12 at 4:10pmI know Drood if, of course, not one of the options, but I hope they continue to assemble a cast this strong, otherwise everyone's just gonna pick Chita every night.

Perfect casting. And she will sing the holy hell out of the role.
With Block and Rivera in the mix, this could be the hot ticket in town.
Still, the one major role that will make or break the production ... the Chairman.
As long as they get that right, the rest should be gravy.

I am glad that she has another project after 'Anything Goes'. She is a talented woman.
"So we already have 4 musical revivals planned for the 2012-13 season: Drood, Annie, Into The Woods(99% likely) & Jekyll & Hyde."
So I am guessing that 'Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella' (it will be considered a revival) is not happening this season.

It's been said before, and I'll say it again: Jim Dale would be perfect as the Chairman.
Also, I love Stephanie J. Block, but is she necessarily right for this? She has a big brassy sound, and I came to love the score from Betty Buckley's still powerful but completely focused and clean tone. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Block's voice is very versatile and has many shades, she has the ability to rock this role.
I saw the original a few times and Puffer was chosen everytime.
I know he is very busy, but I still think Alan Cumming is perfect for the Chairman.

Out of curiosity, are there any supporting roles in DROOD that would be appropriate for Karen Olivo? A couple weeks ago, she tweeted about nailing an audition. So it got me thinking.

Posted: 6/19/12 at 2:08amShe would be a very good Helena Landless. That could actually be some pretty amazing casting right there. Did she specifically mention Drood?

Posted: 6/19/12 at 2:12amNope, but she tweeted that it went well and "felt great to sing again." I'm too lazy to find it, lol.

Posted: 6/19/12 at 7:21amI've often thought that she sounded a bit like Betty on The Pirate Queen cast recording, especially during "Woman."

Helena is a small part, but a good one. Karen would be great.
I saw the show twice on Broadway. The first time with the full OBC, Rosa Bud (Patti Cohenour) was picked as the murderer, and the second time, over a year later, Puffer (then played by Karen Morrow) was picked.

Posted: 6/19/12 at 12:02pmHelena may be a smaller role in terms of stage time relative to some other characters in the show, but she has the capacity to steal every scene she's in. So it's a somewhat small but relatively showy role. The original, Jana Schneider, was nominated for a Tony. And the piece (barring the Chairman, who has a huge amount of material) is very much an ensemble piece. Every character has at least one nice moment. I don't think Olivo would consider the role too small; she recently had a fairly small role, I believe, in BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK (which also featured Block, interestingly enough).

Posted: 6/19/12 at 12:15pmjim dale would be perfect!! not one i'd ever thought of in that role, but i kind of love it if it were to work out that way. definitely digging the idea of SJB as Drood, I did this show in HS & my classmate who played Drood actually looks a lot like Stephanie with her expressive face & round eyes. LOVE IT!
