re: Stephanie J. Block

I wish I had a clip. She sang Not That Girl and Defying Gravity at her Birdland show on Valentine's day. In short, Amazing!. I've never heard DG sang like that before. I wonder if that performance was recorded?

re: Stephanie J. Block

Why isn't she the Elphaba on Broadway? Why? She was amazing at Birdland. I was speechless.

re: Stephanie J. Block

The producers gave it to Idina Menzel in San Francisco (resulting in Broadway) probably because they wanted a "bigger name."

I know; it's depressing.

re: Stephanie J. Block

From all the praise she's gotten on the board, I'm rather excited about seeing her next month in Toronto. Let's hope she blows my socks off.

re: Stephanie J. Block

She didn't play the role on Broadway because she'd never been on Broadway and the producers were scared to put somebody who'd never done a Broadway show in the lead.

EDIT FOR PERSONAL RESPONSE: Stupid move by the producers.

re: Stephanie J. Block

Idina wasn't THAT big of a name before "Wicked".

re: Stephanie J. Block

Still, she had a few Broadway credits while Block had none. She only got hired for The Boy From Oz when Wicked first moved to NYC.

re: Stephanie J. Block

I'm glad she chose to originate the role in "BFO" rather than be Idina's standy-by. I thought she was great as Liza.

re: Stephanie J. Block

It wasn't as much of a name thing as it was that they were scared to basically put a huge show on the shoulders of someone without any Broadway credits. I believe it was that they wanted someone who knew what it took to mount a Broadway musical.

If you go to the LiveJournal.com community for Stephanie and read through some of the posts on there they have like question and answer with her plus updates from Stephanie on her Birdland concert and the tour and stuff. It's cool!

re: Stephanie J. Block

Well, I dont have any clips of her from Wicked, but if want to hear her sing go to scottalan.net and click on sounds under multimedia and there a bunch of songs from a new musical PIECE featuring Stephanie L. Block. They are incredible songs and she sounds excellent! I can only imagine what she sounds like in WICKED! :)

re: Stephanie J. Block

Anyone know how long she is contracted with the show? It is coming to my city but not until May of next year and I would love to see her.

re: Stephanie J. Block

I meant why wasnt she the Elphaba now. I know why Idina beat her out, I'm not dumb...

re: Stephanie J. Block

She is contracted with the tour for a year only.

re: Stephanie J. Block

I am glad the tour is coming in my vicinity... because now that I can't see Idina ever again, I really want to see Steph Block. The timing is really bad, but I really want to get a chance... it's a two-hour drive away. I thought she was a lot of fun to watch in TBFO, and I'm sure she is great in Wicked.
