The upcoming Broadway production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play Between Riverside And Crazy, directed by Austin Pendleton, will reunite much of the acclaimed 2015 Off Broadway cast when it begins previews Wednesday, November 30, at Second Stage’s HELEN Hayes Theater.
The production, which officially opens Monday, December 19, will reunite most of the Off Broadway cast, including Stephen McKinley Henderson, Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón, Liza Colón-Zayas and Michael Rispoli.
Great news! I know Henderson hasn't been absent from the NY stage for too long, but it so happens that this will be my first time seeing him live.It will be my first exposure to this play as well. I'm very excited!
Henderson is an absolute *treasure* onstage, and an incredibly warm and gracious gentleman when I had the chance to chat with him at a fundraiser event a few years ago.
You are in for a very special experience - his performance is incredible. This is easily one of the highlights on my fall season calendar. I hope you have a wonderful time!
I'm very excited because I missed this off-Bway. This will also be the first time he's originated a LEAD role on Broadway. I totally forgot he replaced Chris Cooper in DOLL'S HOUSE 2 for two months in 2017; before that, his last bway show was in 2014 (Raisin in the Sun), almost 9 years ago.

Henderson really is a treasure. One of my favorite character actors, great to see him getting the chance to head this up on Broadway.
all I can do is add another voice to the chorus of praise of Henderson.

WOAHHHH, WTF - that came out of nowhere, but I'm all here for it!
Love this casting.
Damn, good job Second Stage. That’s a big “get.”
I remember liking Common’s performance a lot in The Hate U Give. Will be interesting to see how his work translates onstage and if this can also generate big sales. 2nd Stage’s ad strategy is generally so inept that even Chris Evans didn’t sell major tickets.
