"I like Christy a little better, Anneliese's voice was a little TOO over powering for the role, but both were amazing!"

Christy Romano was awful as Belle, singing-wise. Some of her notes fell flat quite a bit.

Reba in Annie get your Gun hands down.....

As much as I LOVE Bernadette- I really preferred Reba in the role!

I don't know if she would really count as stunt casting anymore because she's proven herself but at the time putting Diana Degarmo in Hairspray as Penny was considered a stunt cast. Same with her lead role in BKLYN. Both worked out really well.

I think Reba wins everything. I really don't think there is anything she can't do.

Roger Daltrey as Judas in the BBC2 cast of JCS some time in the Nineties (Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet was Jesus, Frances Ruffelle was Mary, and Julian Clary played Herod). I dunno, something about it really worked. He had a great voice for the role, and a terrific range.

I think stunt casting is where a big name comes in to sell tickets however the talent they bring is sorely lacking the skills to be a stage performer. If however if the stunter comes in and proves the skills necessary then they should have the stunt tag removed. Two reasons one for respect of their talent and secondly their name brought in fresh excitement to a show and knowledge everyone get paid next month.

the best stunt casting, within recent memory, was Whoopi in Xanadu. It did exactly what stunt casting is supposed to do. i "sold out" (well, pretty damn close) 6 weeks of a show that was struggling (even though the she is complete genius:))
She certainly extended the life of that show (bc, for some reason the American public has to have a celeb in a show to go see it....)

I wouldn't call Holmes stunt casting at all. She is opening the show and that is different then being stunt casted.

Stunt turned Star-casting for me was Deborah Cox in Aida. I went in thinking she may do a serviceable job of the role (I had previously seen both Heather Headley and Maya Days), but wow, I was blown away. She was amazing and became my favorite in the role.
