Banana Joe, who was named Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club last night, is wasting NO TIME cashing in on HIS 15 minutes of fame and will replace Macaco (a real, working actor) at tonight's performance.
Repulsive.
"Matt Polk, a press representative for Roundabout Theater Company, said that Joey — as he is known to close friends and handlers — will be filling in for Macaco, the dog held by Stephanie J. Block in Act II of “Drood,” at Wednesday’s evening performance.
Macaco will still perform as scheduled in the Wednesday matinee of “Drood,” while Banana Joe is appearing on Fox News with Shepard Smith. On Thursday, Macaco will then resume regular performances in the musical."

In the "bizz", we call that the Rachel Berry syndrome.

Is this even legal?
In the UK if 'Banana Joe' went on stage it would need to be on a leash and not 'perform', and even then the local council would need to have been given 10 days notice that a dog not trained for stage appearance is going on stage. Take it off the leash and permission gets real difficult. See link below

And what are equity doing?
And will the original dog get a percentage of Banana Joes payment (say 2%, like Tom Hanks for 'Lucky Guy')

Posted: 2/13/13 at 6:03pmUm, a dog who is trained to show has stage training. A lot of it actually.

Posted: 2/13/13 at 6:14pmI think it's a fun idea. And the original poster either has too much time on his hands, or he owns the original dog.

The original dog belongs to SJB. It's her dog.
"OK, so what would they have done if the sheepdog had won? "
"I asked the same thing."
I think it would be even funnier.

It's a great press opportunity for the show and that bitch was all over the media today! I'm not sure I would call this "stunt casting" or "repulsive," but I've seen posters on here go off on far less. And let's be honest ... it's a 15 second role!
WOOF!
