Hello everyone. I just joined this board and wanted to find out what would be best for me.
Basically I've decided to be an actor because I have done some shows here in high school and everyone tells me how good I am and that I should be on Broadway. And that I should be on the show "Glee." They all told me that I would have been a lot better than Mathew Morison was on The Tony's.
I did see some shows like "Mary Poppins" and I have seen the movie. When we saw the show, we talked at the intermision and we agreed that I need to be in the show. So I do know it more than the average person would. That would be easier for the cast and director, since I all ready know it. Basically since I all ready know the show, what would be best for me to get cast in it? Should I basically write a letter to the theatre for the director, or should I stage door and talk to the doorman so he could let me in and introduce me to the cast?
Basically I need to live on the Upper East Side as that is where Broadway stars live and living in an area where successful people live is what I will need to be famous. It would make sense for a Broadway star to live there. People would expect that.

Forget about "getting cast on Broadway" and just work your face off taking any and all gigs to master your craft. That's the best way to go about it. Eventually, you'll be attached to something worthwhile that hits Broadway.
Plotting to take over Broadway is a route to failure.

If you think you should be on Glee, don't try out for Broadway; Broadway performers sing with out auto tune and know how to act.
Now, with that said, if you really want to be on Broadway, go to college and earn a BFA in Musical Theatre.

Can't someone be on Broadway without studying or practicing MUSICAL theater? I haven't heard of Frank Langella or Marian Seldes starring in any musicals, and they are successful performers?
I'm mostly just expressing my frustration at musical bias.
Seldes, 2007: "I never thought (back then) that, now, when you read 'Broadway this' or 'Broadway that,' it almost exclusively meant musicals."

Nowadays, directors like seeing a college degree. And on average, there are more musicals than plays on Broadway at any given time.
I'm not trying to pick a fight, but if this user truly wants advice on how to get into the business, the first step should be (and the safest step) earning a BFA in Musical Theatre.
A BFA in Musical Theatre doesn't mean you're limited to just musicals, as they act in musicals as well last time I checked.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 4:08pmWake up every morning and look into a mirror saying "I deserve to be on Broadway because I am special." All you need to do is believe, and it will be. Anyone who doesn't make it on Broadway just didn't believe hard enough.

Learn how to lift your soft palatte. It will get you work.
It will also help with your singing.
It's a blowjob joke. Get it? Ya gotta suck a d*ck to get on Broadway. Thanks folks...I'm here all week.

Oh yeah, that too. Or win a reality show. That guarantees a lifetime career on Broadway.
Right?

Definately go to the stage door and talk to the security guard about all of this. Let us know what he says :)
One thing the buisness takes is knowledge. I'm still a nobody, but I do have that. Do some research, take some lessons, audition, do as many non-Broadway shows as you can. I doubt a letter to the director about how badly you need to be on Glee will get you on Broadway.

I don't think that's necessarily true... Carolee Carmello majored in Business Administration, Robert Cuccioli majored in Finance, and the list goes on... Both are Tony Award nominees/Drama Desk Winners, originated roles in musicals, and still are performing today (although Cuccioli did not see the success that Carmello did).
