Suggestions for music streaming apps for cast recordings

It seems that Broadway Records, which now records a whole ton of the cast albums doesn't list their stuff on any streaming service. It's pretty annoying, and I can't say I understand any business rationale behind it.

I have google Play unlimited streaming and love it. It also has some great radio "stations". Just added one called CARDS. It was suggested when I put Ameican Psycho in my library. A lot of Broadway and off-Broadway music I have never heard. Nice thing is you can just stream it or download it to listen to off-line and then it updates when you turn your wifi back on.

the rationale, such as it is, is cash flow, and these producer-funded records need whatever they can get asap rather than an annuity. To put this in context, the top song from the top show of the 14-15 season (Fun Home) has to date generated gross Spotify revenue in the range of two grand. That also explains why some of them have deferred streaming.

Oh, but, Hogan.....I shouldn't have to PAY to listen to the music I want.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

No, mama you shouldn't. And maybe some day you won't. In the meantime, think of all the music they'd have to pay YOU to listen to.

"That's interesting! Do you have any more statistics on Spotify grosses for soundtracks? Just out of curiosity.

It's just math. The number of streams for any given song is available on spotify. The royalty varies based on an algorithm but most people find it ranges between .004-.008 cents per stream. The average for most recent cast recording tracks from the better shows that have a couple years of tracking (not including Hamilton obviously) seems to be about 200-250k.so that's where I was working from. you can check any song you are interested in.

I have Apple Music and Spotify. I find that Apple Music is easier to navigate on my Apple devices. There was a news story this week claiming Apple was not approving certain Spotify updates. I wish Spotify was as easy to navigate on Apple devices as it is on Windows devices.

I can't believe the amount of Broadway releases available on Apple Music. Seems they've got everything that has been made available digitally. Spotify is great, too...but I'm partial to Apple Music as it is easier to use for me.

Apple has always punished departures from the Apple ecosystem. Microsoft has tried to but ends up humiliatingly relenting (see, e.g., Skype). Google lets you decide, as long as your choice doesn't require resort to deprecated technologies.
