What are the chances Sunset will extend through the summer? It seems odd that it is being billed as a limited engagement.

Why is it odd?
And chances are not great.

How many non-Roundabout musicals have been announced as strictly limited? I know the Spring Awakening was...but can't think of too many others.

It is common practice for limited engagements to build an extension into their contract (regardless of whether they are billed as "limited" or "strictly limited", that's just marketing language). I would assume there is an extension of 1 or 2 weeks built in. Whether it is put on sale depends on how well the show sells and if there is demand for more. But I doubt it goes through the summer.

I can't imagine this won't extend by a month give or take! The TONYs are on June 11th, and I can't imagine that ALW wouldn't want to promote his show, and the fact that he'd have 4 running concurrently on Broadway... plus the TONYs are a great way to sell tickets, as I'm sure the show will perform on the ceremony...

I think this is going to be a tough sell. Just can't see them filling The Palace and making any profit. The Tony committee could very well consider it not eligible for anything.
I adore Sunset Boulevard. It thrilled that it is a concert staging and that we aren't getting a new Norma. Shame that Roundabout's reading with Donna Murphy stopped there.
I also detest Close's singing in the role (love her as an actress, especially in films).

The show has barely sold any tickets so far. They must be starting to feel a little nervous. q

It is killing me that it is not 18 weeks. I will be in NYC the week after it is scheduled to close. Would love to see it. I think Glenn gave one of the greatest musical performances I have seen, even if her voice isn't the greatest. Her acting was incredible...so intense that I couldn't imagine how she could do it eight performances a week, but she did.
Re not selling well, I noticed that. Maybe it is early; maybe the same interest isn't here as in London because we had the opportunity to see her do it for a year, even if it was 20 years ago, whereas London hadn't had that opportunity. The people who would represent the biggest audience for her (in numbers) are the same ones who saw it 20 years ago...and didn't love it.
Plus it is expensive and we are being told it is essentially a concert version. That has to be an issue, too.

Aside from Close being ineligible having already won for the role the only way they would be deemed ineligible for any other nominations is if the producers choose to not invite Tony voters. There is no other reason all other elements of this production could be deemed ineligible for Tony consideration.
