I don't think many of us expected these controversies to appreciably affect the box office. That doesn't mean the underlying issues aren't worth discussing.

It was rumored they would take the production to LA in November of 2025; I would assume they close in July and Nicole takes a long vacation before the LA run. If what I read is even true/plans don't change. I can also imagine a scenario where they try to find another name to replace Nicole and keep running in New York.
Maybe this is more to do with Patti’s troubled history with the show? The OP thinks the success of this production somehow irritates her? I have no idea.

I remember a rumor that Heather Headley was a potential replacement.
I wonder if they will stay in the same vein and cast someone like Christina Aguilera.
Wow, I'd never have thought but Christina Aguilera could be perfect - she is a name, has an incredible, incredible voice and definitely fits with faded pop star vibe concept of production. I would 100% go back. Can she act though? I guess she tried and Jamie Lloyd has a heavy hand.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
With the Russel Brand controversy; I would LOVE to see Katy Perry as Norma.
I heard they want to open an LA production with Anne Hathaway as Norma?

Miscast? She is the reason the production is playing on Broadway. She is perfectly cast for this particular production. Her performance is what is selling tickets. We can be angry or disappointed that her vote didn't align with the values of the theatre community and the funding of the arts, but let's not kid ourselves about the performance she is giving in the production she has been cast in. She would be miscast in Trevor Nunn's production, but this production was built around her as a performer. By nearly all accounts, she is this production of Sunset Blvd., love it or leave it. If she doesn't win the Tony (and at this point I am not convinced she will), it will be because of politics and Tony voters not supporting her as a person, not because they feel she was miscast; that will be something we discuss for decades, as I feel it was pretty much a sure thing until this past week.

I think you may be slightly skewered in your estimation- many discerning folks have not be impressed with her abilities beyond the pop vocals. Yes, they have tailored this production to her abilities— make fun and parody to conceal what she cannot deliver as an actress. I don’t think she’d be winning a Tony for this either way. In my opinion, it’s an ultimately silly production without impact beyond the awesome sound design and crystalline vocals, and I think Tom Francis comes off best navigating these heavy-handed waters.
Nicole would be miscast in the original production or any production since. But not this production - it would be like saying Alice Ripley is miscast in next to normal. Nicole IS Norma.

Yeah dream casting replacements for this production is a fun puzzle. Christina is my best choice. Lindsay Lohan doesn't have the voice, Britney doesn't have the acting chops... In the theater realm: Idina Menzel feels ideal on paper (Redwood be damned), Rene Elise Goldsberry more or less played a financially drought norma in Girls5eva, Jane Krakowski, Toni Collette...
