Madness. That orchestra will be cut in half by the time performances start (if they start), mark my words. Could be wrong of course, but how could they ever afford that?

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Was there any sort of set to the ENO production this is based on?  Perhaps they'll use any set pieces from London to keep costs down?

Since Close did it in London for this production, maybe Patti will get swapped in at the last moment for New York.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Between SunsetCatsMiss Saigon altogether... you'd think it's about to be 1995 on Broadway (which, incidentally, was the last Dolly! revival as well)!

Amazing!  Please tell me someone has called George Hearn to ask him to reprise Max.

I was just thinking about a Glenn/Patti race and realized Glenn wouldn't be eligible. Still revival will be exciting.

Where the hell will they put 50 musicians? The ticket prices for this , taking into account the # of musicians Close and the limited run, will be astronomical. We saw her the first time around so this will suffice.

Did you read the article?  They are onstage.

Still they are going to be a bit tight with actors and scenery fighting for space on the stage with 50 musicians. What happened to the reconstruction that was to take place? Has that been put on hold?

It's doable in theory, but I think it is a pipe dream. The orchestra is about +$100k which would be possible if all the other costs were held in check but I don't see how you do that. The idea of a 20 week musical recouping under any circumstance other than a very minimal production is I'd say fanciful. The breakeven for this would be north of $1.5mil average. I don't think there is a market that makes that happen. But I will hide and watch.

wow this news is crazy.

that orchestra will not happen.

I'm sad it's Glenn...love her as an actress but that lady doesn't have the voice for this score.

With they'd gone with Donna Murphy or someone fantastic.

If this happens, I think you have to give Andrew Lloyd Webber a round of applause.

You do understand, do you not, that this production is only coming in because she is attached, right? You know, on the strength of the reception she received?

"What happened to the reconstruction that was to take place? Has that been put on hold?"

Did you read the article? It's quite clear. It isn't starting for another year.

If they do this, they must be willing to take the hit and know they won't recoup. Which is insane, but most Broadway producers are.

Really want Riedel to be right on this one...

The economics seem against it but want to see this happen so badly...

yeah I totally get that. I didn't think she could sing it 22 years ago either.

It was a very minimal set - basically a set of platforms and staircases. Pieces like the occasional desk or couch were rolled in from the wings. And the famous car made an appearance.

I'm not a big fan of ALW or the score, but Glenn was magnificent and it was a spellbinding evening.

loved Glen the 3 times I saw her in the 90's.  And Sunset is one of my favorites - but I'd love to see this with Glen's understudy.  A 50 piece orchestra playing that score with someone who really, really could sing it - would be phenomenal.

Gee Tag! Thanks again! You've given me something to dream about for months. If this really happens I may pee my pants. Are the Broadway Gods smiling on this? A 50 piece orchestra! Please let it happen.

(and I suppose we can now blame "Hamilton" for these possibly incredible prices). I just paid close to $300 a seat for "Great Comet", so I'm sure this would be near $400. Have prices been announced yet for "Hello Dolly"?

(Alice Ripley has a few years on "Betty Schaefer" but if Close doesn't do 8 shows like Bette, she would make a great "Norma" too.)

Btw, does anyone know about this stage design? Does/Will it have that monstrous elevator lifting and lowering the stage (from the studios/scenes and back to !0086 Sunset)? I was but almost a kid when I saw that unbelievably gorgeous set. "This Time Next Year" I hope I've seen this become a reality.
