Susan Stroman will be opening both Big Fish and Bullets Over Broadway this season. I know it was common in past decades, but I can’t recall in recent years a director having 2 musicals in one season. Anyone know when the last was?
Joe Mantello directed WICKED and ASSASSINS in the same season...that was the first one that came to mind, not sure if it's also the most recent.
Alex Timbers, back in 2011-12 had both Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and The Pee-Wee Herman Show.
Susan Stroman has actually done it before - she directed both Contact and The Music Man during the 1999-2000 season.

Isn't it actually three? I I believe she is directing the new Mandy Patinkin musical at CSC.

Technically Alex Timbers could also work on three original shows this season with Rocky opening on Broadway, Loves Labours Lost running in the park and the possibility of a return or transfer of Here Lies Love
Jeff Calhoun had Newsies and Bonnie and Clyde in the 2011-2012 season.
Michael Mayer opened both AMERICAN IDIOT and EVERYDAY RAPTURE on Broadway in April 2010.

		     			Granted one was a transfer.

And the fact that Calhoun has had two shows on Broadway at all is just a little bit disappointing.

He's had three, including the atrocious revival of Jekyll and Hyde.
Though it was not a musical, Alex Timbers had a third show open in 2011-2012; Peter and the Starcatcher.
Mantello also managed to get Take Me Out up and running earlier the same year... crazy.

Stroman also is directing The Scottsboro Boys in London so she got a busy few months.
