Hello,
I'm seeing Sutton Foster in concert tonight in Philly. i remember seeing photos from the last time she was here of her meeting fans in the lobby(Think it was right after her last album came out). Is she still doing that or doing stage door? Thanks!

I saw her several years ago at ASU in Boone NC and she did not meet anybody or do a stage door thing. She mentioned she had family at the show so maybe that was why but I guess you will find out that night.

Nah, she’s still good with meeting fans post performance. She did so when she did the 2016 Off-Broadway revival of SWEET CHARITY. Took her time, too. Posed for selfies, etc.

In concert however, she sang slow ballads for about an hour with very little talking. It was beautifully sung but not fun. It needed energy from some upbeat numbers and funny stories (like Audra, Kristin Chenoweth and Laura Benanti all do in their concerts).

To the OP
What’s the Merriam Theatre like these days?
I went to UARTS and haven’t been in that theatre in years

Beautiful, but dreadfully uncomfortable. I was at the Sutton concert, too, and the leg room in the balcony––the second of three tiers in this venue––is the worst I think I've ever experienced anywhere... I woke up in pain the next day.
On the concert itself, I have to echo the thoughts of LetTheSunshinein2. I love Sutton, but the setlist for this show is pretty poor. Too much cutesy material that definitely does not translate to the almost 2000 seats in that house. Her best song of the night was "Moments in the Woods," I thought, and I did like the few selections from "Anyone Can Whistle." I've seen Patti LuPone and Heather Headley in Philly recently and this show didn't hold a candle, sadly.

You can have the most beautiful voice in the world but you need to be a entertainer also. Mix up your set list a bit and have so uptempo numbers for a change of pace. People also want you to be a bit personable also, that is another reason they come to a concert.

IMO, her strength is her character, not her beautifully trained voice for sweeping numbers.
Patter songs work well for her. She's charming.
I've seen her several times, nearly the same show as she doesn't seem to change things up as much over the last few years.
