Re: Re: Damn Yankees Revival 2027

Sep 27, 2026 — 5:27:44 PM

I'm sorry to see Jordan Donica not continuing with the cast. No shade to the new Young Joe, I'm not really familiar with him, but Jordan was one of the best parts of the production at Arena Stage. I also think it's too bad they aren't continuing to do the show in the round (unless they are making major changes to the Marquis) as the baseball diamond set design was clever and I thought worked for the show.

Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Reviews

I saw this earlier this week. I thought it was outstanding and am so glad my long-planned trip was before it closed! The thing that seems to be missing from the articles about it closing is what impact the most recent Broadway revival and the horribly received movie may have had on ticket buyers. We know this was a totally different and fresh production, but does the average casual theater goer or tourist? How many people said, I already saw that, or the movie made them have no desire to see ...

TLC Musical ‘CrazySexyCool’ Aims For Broadway

Jul 1, 2026 — 6:40:04 PM

I saw it and thought it was in fairly good shape. The three actresses who play the TLC girls are phenomenal, the choreography is amazing and of course the music is awesome. The book is in decent shape, and the girls' led interesting lives, so there's some substance there. How the author wove Unpretty into the story was a highlight for me. There's also a lot packed in and it was almost 3 hours when I saw it still in previews, so it does need some trimming and work. But I think they've got some...

I agree with your review. Definitely more of an experience than a musical, but a really fun time!

Is this in bad taste? Shutdown sale

Oct 2, 2025 — 7:47:19 PM

Definitely typical to see discounts during a shutdown. Arena Stage offered free tickets to the Weds matinee on Damn Yankees to federal workers. I think it's a win-win. Helps the theaters fill their seats and gives the people who are affected by the shutdown something to do to take their mind off of things at a reasonable price.

TLC Musical, New Adaptations of DAMN YANKEES and PAL JOEY Will Play Arena Stage

Sep 20, 2025 — 7:00:39 PM

Just back from the matinee. Performance started about 25 min late due to an issue with the sound so they definitely have some sort of bug in their system, which I agree with Dottie is rare for Arena. I was sitting near the sound board and there were two techs there through all of act I looking anxious as they ran the show. A couple of spots where the mic volumes were a little uneven but they largely pulled it off. As far as where to sit, I agree with Gingerbread Man that you really can't go w...

Spelling Bee Off Broadway Cast

Jul 23, 2025 — 6:12:37 PM

So glad that Kevin McHale is doing the show. I thought he was exceptional in DC. I'm sure Justin Cooley will be great as Coneybear, but I'm sorry that Noah Galvin isn't continuing because he and Nina White, who I'm guessing is doing Queen of Versailles, were the other two stand outs at the Kennedy Center.

Lea Michele, Aaron Tveit, and Nicholas Christopher in 2025 Chess Revival!

Jun 25, 2025 — 5:15:43 PM

That was a mess! I got the unending spinning wheel when trying to select tickets more than once and even got as far as putting my credit card in to buy seats once and then it didn't go through. Finally purchased tickets over the phone. Telecharge really needs to totally overhaul its system.

Spotted Celebrities in Audience

May 5, 2025 — 1:31:50 AM

Fun thread! Sat in front of Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson at Glass Menagerie. Stood in bathroom line with Uma Thurman at My Fair Lady. Gabrielle Union at Stick Fly. Not Broadway but John Lithgow at the Ralph Fines MacBeth in DC. Walked past Michael Douglas on the street after A Little Night Music matinee- he must have been going to spend time with Catherine Zeta-Jones between shows.

New York City, I Don't Know How To Quit You!

Mar 31, 2025 — 8:22:14 PM

If you book your hotel via playbill you can stay at the Paramount minus the resort fee. https://playbilltravel.travelwits.com/That's been the best rate I can find for a May trip as well. It's fine and the location is perfect, but I too will be looking for better rates elsewhere between now and then.

Help me choose

Heading to NYC in May. Going to see Oh Mary, Buena Vista Social Club, and Maybe Happy Ending. Have two spots left and trying to decide between Death Becomes Her, Purpose, John Proctor, and Mincemeat. Which two should I see? (Have already seen Gypsy and Sunset Blvd). Thanks!

Shadowing a Stage Manager

Mar 19, 2025 — 12:33:25 PM

I agree with BrodyFosse- you've made a good first step - and their other advice is solid too. Also don't forget about any local professional theaters in your area. That's another place to meet professional SMs, and maybe shadow or even intern. Best wishes to you!

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews

Dec 29, 2024 — 12:34:19 PM

When shows are canceled like this, does everyone still get paid? I know the producers have lost a ton of money in ticket revenue this week, but I am wondering about the actor in the ensemble, or the dresser or light board operator, or front of house folks? Just wondering if people lost basically a full week's pay during the holidays.

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews

I agree, Jordan. Either their management has no idea what they are doing (which I don't think is the case), or people must just still be dropping like flies and every time they think they've got covers worked out, someone else drops. So hopefully whomever they've got in terms of a cast who can pull off the show for tomorrow hangs in there. I also have to wonder if their issue isn't just cast illness, but also with illness in the crew? As someone who can only make it to the city a couple of ti...

Borle, Sykes, and Rodriguez will lead Kennedy Center's BYE BYE BIRDIE

Saw this tonight and Kim is 16 in this production. Not sure why some were stating that they had increased the character's age.

Broadway needs to start using Yondr pouches

Nov 5, 2023 — 9:35:17 AM

I personally hate them. I turn off my phone before the show starts and don't turn it on again until it's over and Yonder pouches make it difficult to then put my phone in my pocket and I'm stuck holding it. I find it so frustrating that people can't just follow a simple instruction and turn them off. I can understand using the pouches as an added level of security when there is nudity on stage, but otherwise, I really hope it does not become the norm on Broadway.

ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME To Close September 3, 2023

It looks like they tried to add more bells and whistles for broadway (light up arm bands- an odd choice, and even more choreo) but going u

Will be curious to hear about the changes they are making.
