It did. Last season. She was incredible alternating performances with one night playing Rose then the following night playing Louise. She was robbed the Tony Award for Best Actress and Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

I was at the performance where the alternates were ill and Sutton played both Rose and Louise. Nothing short of brilliant.
I was slightly less impressed with them stunt casting Herbie the Love Bug as Herbie, but to his credit he was better than first replacement Lovebug Starski.

I thought it was a clever idea to dress the strippers as Candy Stripers, though. It kept the show family friendly.
...but *I* was there the night she played Rose, Louise AND Dainty June. Stopped the show with Rose's Turn, the Moo Cow song and Little Lamb.
Really added a lot of layers to the Tulsa plotline when Louise had to face that he ran off with...another version of herself. And I enjoyed hearing her sing in two-part harmony on If Momma Was Married.
She'll have it down to a one-person show in no time!
I only heard an audience audio of Sutton's duel/duet of "If Momma Was Married." and it wasn't short of brilliance. The audience cheering and applauding midway thru the number was chilling. I'd have killed to have been at that performance. Sucks no video ever surfaced.
^sucks no evidence of this revival ever surfaced

Did anyone feel uncomfortable with the trangendered actor playing Tulsa?
I was confused by the effeminate Tulsa until my friend pointed this bit of casting out to me that I was unaware of. Even The New York Times did a featured article on him that I apparently missed.

It was a lengthy article and had a lot of big words in it. It took me a long time to read it but it was really good.
