So does this mean Audra is an Oscar away from an EGOT?!
Outstanding Special Class Program
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (Live From Lincoln Center) • PBS • A Lincoln Center Media Production
Andrew Carl Wilk, Executive Producer
Allen Kelman, Supervising Producer
Douglas Chang, Producer
Elizabeth W. Scott, Produced by
Audra McDonald, Host
What does she have a Grammy for? (Sorry, being lazy about Googling). But yes, I'm so excited she got an Emmy sort of randomly for this-- her Beggar Woman is always great though, even if that's not what she got recognized for. She has no chance of a nomination, but she gave one of my favorite supporting performances this year in RICKI & THE FLASH.

She has 2-- one for Best Opera Recording and one for Best Classical Album, both for Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the Los Angeles Opera. :)
^ A confusing award because as I recall, Mahagonny did not actually have a recorded album. Unless it was based on the DVD?

Boy I wish I could get an Emmy for technically basically saying hi...and bye...but I'm going to pretend they counted all the stuff in the middle.
Could she finish her egot by getting an Oscar for beauty and the beast possibly?
I don't think this means she has an Emmy, unfortunately. And no, she wouldn't get a nod for B&TB, not only because it's not an Oscar-worthy role, but because it's a very small role. How much emotional depth can a closet have, anyway? Maybe maybe maybe she could get recognized for her featured role in "Ricki and the Flash" but it would be a huge reach for the academy to even consider it to be Oscar-worthy. She'll get an Oscar someday though. And an Emmy. I mean, she's been nominated twice so far! It'll come, I believe.

It does mean she has an Emmy, it's already been confirmed. She also acknowledged it on Twitter. https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Audra-McDonald-Shares-Emmy-Win-with-SWEENEY-TODD-LIVE-FROM-LINCOLN-CENTER-for-Outstanding-Special-Class-Program-20150912

I TOTALLY forgot she also served as host! I was under the impression that people thought everyone in the cast got an Emmy just for acting in it. My bad! Also, her tweet was pretty vague, in terms of stating it flat out, but I digress. Yay Audra!!!
Ricki and the Flash probably won't be remembered much come Oscar season. But the Golden Globes might pay more attention to it. In terms of winning a performance Emmy, I'm sure she will be a nominee next year when HBO releases Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill
