The production of Little Shop did do Broadway, just with a
different cast
this is heartbreaking everybody and maybe its cuz im on spring break so i have ALOT of time on my hands but this is really a downer on the day. I saw this show in Chicago bfor christina's accident and it was very good. It still had a ways to go but it seemed like it was on a very good path to a successful run in NY. Christina clearly loved the part and i don't care if people said that she couldn't sing that girl had soo much heart and spunk in that performance its really sad and Dennis was hilarious this is very disheartening.
Now that it's cancelled. What was the shows new ending?
For some reason when I read this, it didn't even register that I hadn't already heard...I'm not at all surprised, I think it would have been a big failure. It sucks for all of them, and I really wanted to see D'Amboise, but I'm not going to lie and say that I really care much.
And to those claiming that LA CAGE will now win best musical revival, I don't think CHARITY was ever a threat to LA CAGE - I think PACIFIC OVERTURES should win, and hopefully WILL win.
Well are'nt you just the bitchy little hussy.
*mouth falls on floor* I feel so sorry for everyone involved with this production. Especially for Christina, since she wanted to prove she could do it. I do feel honored to have seen the show though. *sigh* This means I won't be able to buy the cast recording.

Wow, I am surprised. Will definately be keeping that Playbill. I'm glad I stole an extra on the way out, too...
if you don't care much don't post...its simple
I do think this points out the risk in "stunt" casting, or pinning too many hopes on one star.
its not the broken foot or the Charlotte and not Christina. It is the SHOW. SWEET CHARITY was never better than second rate, even as a vehicle for GWEN VERDON. The critics were not happy with the original SWEET CHARITY nor the 1980s revival.
Many know I have said this so many times on this Board that I could not understand why the producers thought they could make money with this turkey that always failed critically and financially.
I hope the cast and crew all find other work quickly. I would love to see CHRISTINA APPLEGATE play ROXIE in CHICAGO. She got some nice reviews when they first started coming in for Charity. With the Weissler's and her apparent talents, it almost seems likely that we could see Christina make her Broadway debut in CHICAGO. Bravo for her, I hope it happens.

Good point Tony. I saw it with my friend and we loved it. Christina is sexy and cute at the same time.

Miss Applegate does not replace.
wow i am really suprised by this and very sad
i was really looking forward to this show playing on broadway...i feel bad for the cast and everyone who has put alot into this show
brdlwyr, thankyou! :)
Wow...just got in from traveling. This is sad, sad news. I was pulling for this show all along, despite all the negative attention it was getting. I thought for sure Christina was going to pull a surprise "I'm here, people!" on April 21st.
I feel terrible for all the cast and crew as well, as well as the creative team. I know they were bustin a$$ all year to come up with a viable product for broadway.
WISHIHADATONY;
I want to correct you again. The reviews for the original production were positive. Also; the reviews for the revival in the 80's were mostly positive. I also believe the revival won tonys for its supporting cast and best revival. Debbie Allen lost because it was Bernadette Peters year for Song and Dance.

I'd love to hear from anyone who is seeing the show tonight or this weekend and how the cast performed.
It's gotta be like playing the last week of the season knowing you're not going to the playoffs.
How depressing.
MichaelBennett...I too am disappointed in that "backstage" diary. I kept going to that damn page day after day, hoping against hope she'd post SOMETHING.....ANYTHING!!! "today we rehearsed and rehearsed some more"...Anything!!!!! They missed out a a wonderful opportunity to document the trials and tribulations of this show.
Unless....Shannon has a secret stash of postings that she will share "later on".
Well, I reserved for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I expect to be getting an email/phone call from Telecharge in the next few days, as I did when Caroline, or Change closed before my reservation. I will mail back the Sweet Charity ticket and get credit. Actually I'm not too disapointed as I've heard so much good buzz on Spelling Bee, love William Finn, and though it's a "small" show, so was Avenue Q and look what happened to it! Now I'll be seeing 6 new shows (no revivals, which after all happen all the time in L.A.) in June: Spelling Bee, All Shook Up, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Wicked (3rd time), Spamalot, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2nd time, first was in San Diego).
eslgr8- I am properly jealous of your upcoming theater plans. I had Charity tickets for late April simply because I was traveling there, and now will get that money back and probably turn it in for DRS.
Guys, I need your opinion.
Do you think Charlotte will return to Chicago right away on the 28th? Or will the Weissler's give her a little break?
Coz I REALLY wanna see Michelle DeJean as Roxie, and I was hoping to see her next week.
you should pm CJR to find out about Michelle DeJean. She's always got the scoop on Chicago comings and goings.
this is HORRIBLE.
POOR POOR Christina...............
I wonder what will happen with the cast recording? It was recorded, wasn't it?
Anyone running up to Boston this weekend to catch it? If you are, PM me I want to ask you something.
