Sweet Chrity: What a bad set!

Umm. I think the set is great.
They were nominated for best sets at the Drama Desk awards.
Come on, how can you not think the elevator and closet are GREAT sets. It looks EXACTLY like a real elevator.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 12:11amI am not fond of the charity set either. They could've done so much more with it. After awhile I was tired of seeing the purple dots with the purple background.

Anyway, sets are probally one of the smallest aspects of a show that attracts me to that show.
Considering I think CHICAGO is absolutely brilliant - and the show really has no set.
I go for the performances. If the performances are good, it dosen't matter if the show has a great or just an okay set or not.
I'm not one for spectactle I suppose.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 12:16amthe elevator and closet were cool, but i had student rush seats, so i missed half the action going on in both...

Posted: 8/15/05 at 2:47amI am sure the designers had motives behind their designs. Most do.

Oooooooooh dearest ljay. I saw this title and thought "Shya, this guy has hell to pay when Louie gets a hold of him".
I have no problem at all with the sets or costumes...

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:16amHad to change the title, it was irritating me.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:21amI loved the conceptual design for some of the sets, especially the elevator, the closet and the restaurant scene (where Charity won't sit so that she's facing Oscar). But I do agree with the sentiments on the color scheme; it rubbed me the wrong way on the costumes, too. The purple sort of seemed to clash in a way that didn't really help to demonstrate themes with the cute red/pink/yellow motif the advertising goes for. It was just... too much color, and I found it kind of distracting.

I can see how you could find that distracting...I dunno, I thought the whole colors..just all of them..were cute. Which may or may not depending on how you look at it, ruin the theme of the show. Dunno.
p.s. GUH love your avatar

Thanks, so do I. He's such a cutie. zepka took that for me.
I think the color scheme they're using on the billboards and windowcards and things is VERY cute. But the deep colors seem to counter that in a sort of bothersome way.

Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:47amWhat's with the Hey Big Spender picture in front of the theatre with the chorus girls looking like drag queens?
#26re: Sweet Charity: What a bad set!
Posted: 8/15/05 at 11:48amI think that's just because they're wearing heavy stage makeup that isn't ideally intended to be seen from up quite so close.

^ Exactly.
I doubt they said "We're going to make the girls look like drag queens!"
Personally, I think they all look sexy.
