I do wish you would stop this type of thread.
I realize it is a service to all the members who have access.
However, you are doing a large DISSERVICE to the productions themselves.
The smaller the grosses, the less likely a show can succeed-and it impacts future productions from the producers of the shows.
If someone really needs to know this info, let the member sign on frequently thruout the day.
It does not need to be broadcast "to the world."
Another fish in the sea heard from. Don't open the thread if you don't wish to read it.
It does no disservice to the productions. TDF stimulates the box office and allows people who cannot otherwise afford to attend the theatre to see productions they otherwise might not. And it is better for a show to have a sold seat rather than an unsold one.
TDF is not a papering service. Therefore, Mr. Roxy is merely providing information which may be of use to people. If he was giving other information (like where certain kinds of tickets can be found), then there would be a problem. I don't know what the big deal is.
These daily threads are really just petulant. Maybe there's no moral quandary to sharing information about what's available on TDF. You could argue that it keeps people who don't read these pages from having an equally fair chance to access tickets before they disappear, but you can just as easily argue the opposite: I have zero problem with debating where the line falls.
But creating these daily threads solely with the intent of aggravating other people who disagree with you? That is rudeness, plain and simple. Go ahead, tell me you HAPPENED to start these posts after someone complained about this kind of thing in general. Tell me it's a COINCIDENCE. I'll believe you fully and not think you're just being a childish brat.
I was doing it to help people. I could care less what people see or not see.
You have a stick up your ass evidenced by your tirade. Get a grip . I will now continue just to annoy the bell out of you.

"I was doing it to help people."
Predictable. At least be honest.

It's rude to the people that don't have TDF.
It makes them not want to pay full price when they see it's being heavily discounted.
Productions do not want this being promoted on message boards and will not put their shows on TDF if it becomes too known. I wish this was deleted and moderated.
Perhaps the people who do not have TDF should not read these threads, since they do not pertain to them. They are a help to the people who do have access to TDF, and no help at all to those who don't.
I see . They would rather have empty seats.
If the mods want it off, that is up to them. I could care less one way or the other. People like you and your Mr S just make me realize why I have soured on theater. I do not make the rules 're TDF membership.
Many on the board have thanked me. If I am told by the mods to stop I will. Until they do, I will continue.Deal with it
Maybe if prices weren't so outrageous I would not need to do it. Think about it.

If a production wishes to be discreet, they would use a papering service.
If they are desperate for the extra minimal amount per ticket (and advertise the fact they are unable to sell tickets), then they will use TDF.
You are bad letting people know re Sideshow
I rarely attend theater anymore. I am trying to help people who still do. Why you 2 (you know who you are) are getting your knickers in a twist is a mystery. Read the posts right after my initial one. Seems like some people appreciate what I do.
There IS nothing in the TDF membership that
a. prohibits posting information
b. refers to keeping things hush, hush
NO ONE on these boards has ever lamented, "I can't possibly buy my ticket now that I know some individuals are getting a better deal!"
I'm a member. I use TDF when I can. Someone here mentioning tix are available affects NOTHING other than those that MIGHT be able to take advantage of it.
Its not like the shows offering tdf have better offers, they make tix available out of desperation and necessity.

EPERK--you are missing the point (big surprise!)
I am a TDF member--so I have access to the info
it has nothing to do with ME reading the post.
It dissuades OTHERS/non-TDFers from buying higher priced tix. There are plenty of discounts avail, tho not as inexpensive as TDF.
Higher prices benefits the shows, and future productions.
And, I too have been "helped" by notifications (from ATC) but that doesnt change my opinion that it shouldnt be done.
It dissuades OTHERS/non-TDFers from buying higher priced tix.
ScottK: Really? You have actual evidence to support that statement, or it's just your opinion that it must be so?
Understand this: For nearly any show, there are one or more ways to not pay full or premium prices. Those who do not wish to explore those avenues will pay full price. Seems like a lot of shows have good healthy long runs - offering discount tickets the entire time.
AND I assume that any show offering discounts knows what the trade-off is. Your opinion on what discounts should be posted on this board is duly noted. And ignored.
Scott
How would it deter non TDF'ers from buying high price tickets? Many simply cannot afford the higher prices and TDF may be the only way they can see it. By the way, TDF prices are not as inexpensive as they were a few years ago. TDF is also a crapshoot. You do not know where you will be seated so your ticket may not be the bargain you think. If a show in previews like Sideshow needs to put tix on TDF, they are in trouble. Maybe people seeing it on TDF will build word of mouth and more full price tickets will be sold
Why are there so many discount options available now? Why do people do student rush or stand on line for hours for lower priced tickets? Prices are simply too high. When the new Larry David show (a straight play) wants $ 150 for a top seat that scares many people away.
You can see from those in this thread more people are in favor of what I am doing than against it. More people need to sound off on this.
I get nothing other than trying to help some people who want to see shows and maybe cannot afford the sky high full prices which no one wants to address. I rarely go anymore so it does not affect me.
No one has even mentioned the cost of a tdf tix, so how would NON tdf people even KNOW what a discount the tix were.
But lets pretend for a moment that it does actually effect things.... just how many people do you really think READ these boards? If it's 500 a day, 1/3 likely don't live in the area, so they weren't buying g tix this week anyway, no harm done. 1/6 of the remaining readers can only make it into the city oneweekends, when discounts are more rare, esp on tdf, so no harm there either. Another 1/6 has no desire to see a particular show.
So now we are left with 1/3 of our readers. Out if the less than 200 readers, some are tdf members, and some will take advantage of the post. Some still won't care. Now, the unaccounted for 100 people are refusing to buy a ticket to the show, ever, because of a tdf offer they weren't eligible for pissed them off???? And you think this very fictitious group of posters is going to break the success of a show. POPPYCOSH and BALDERDASH!
EPERK--you are missing the point (big surprise!)
Oh, and by the way - I get your point exactly. Fortunately, your hat covers it.
