Maybe that'll shut the people saying it isn't happening up.

Why do they need to do a reading if they already have a theater?

what does doing a reading/rehearsal have to do with having booked a theater (whether they have or not I don't know)? They're working on improving the show post out-of-town, as shows do before they come to Broadway.

Sigh. I may never fully comprehend that out of all the shows Papermill produced last season, they plucked Bandstand for Broadway (which seems to have gotten tepid reviews) over the glorious Hunchback. Well, I wish it the best anyway!

Disney didn't want it to move forward. It was "never meant for Broadway", as they put it, so I don't understand the shock about it not transferring. Also, if you can't transfer with the choir, why transfer at all? That choir was one of the most beautiful things about that production. Not everything is for Broadway. Broadway is not the end all.

I realize that- both Disney's intentions for the show and that Broadway isn't always the end goal.
I guess my point was that I don't understand WHY they didn't want to move it forward. It is, musically, a masterpiece. I can't see many amateur theatre groups having the talent pool to nail that score. Furthermore, I wanted it to be on Broadway because it deserves to be there. More people need to be exposed to just how powerful a piece can be.
Just my two cents! :)

It all comes down to taste, doesn't it? I've seen almost everything on Broadway in the last year (excluding Hamilton) and Bandstand was one of my favorite theatrical experiences, beating many Broadway productions. Now I never got around to see Hunchback at Papermill, so I'm not comparing it to that. (I saw it in Germany maaaany years ago and did not like it then, but I understand it has changed a LOT since then and won't judge it based on that experience that I can't remember much about other than the terrible set design and just not liking it)
This is merely to say that there were a lot of people who thought that Bandstand was great, and it has the potential to turn into something special in my opinion. (My taste is pretty much all over the place, I've loved everything from shows critics hated, to BO failures to shows everybody loved to pieces).
I truly hope they will do well and run for a good long while, and if just so that I can see it again (and can I please get a cast recording asap??)

The Bandstand was one of my favorite shows I saw in 2015. I am glad it looks like this is actually going to come to Broadway. It is not without its problems, and the second act is definitely stronger than the first, but overall, I really enjoyed the show. Laura Osnes's 11 o'clock number is worth the price of the ticket alone.

Laura posted something about auditioning for other shows on IG. Does this mean she is looking for other options?

Are you referring to her post about memorizing sides? I thought that might have been for rehearsals, but would they be called sides in that context?

I'm trying to think of a small sized theater where this could fit. Maybe the Schoenfeld if AMERICAN PSYCHO doesn't do well. Otherwise I don't think there will be a smaller theater available in the Fall.

Wouldn't the Longacre, Golden, Hayes, Belasco, and Booth be free for a fall show as well? Maybe even the Barrymore? Or have I missed show announcements for those houses?

Memorizing sides could mean anything. A guest spot on a television show, a movie, a commercial. I doubt she's auditioning for another theatre gig. I feel like everyone is trying so hard to say the show isn't coming. They should have announced it closer to the fall, if this is the reaction from people here.

I think that the Barrymore, Belasco, Longacre, Nederlander, and Schoenfeld are possible. Size-wise, they would be good fits. Especially if the band is onstage. But it all depends on which shows close.

I highly hope it comes this fall! I've planned a trip in December, with my main goal being to see this show! I'm a huge Laura Osnes fan!

Hey y'all. On a periscope chat tonight Laura said they're just twiddling their thumbs waiting for dates and a theatre. She says they're expecting it to start in the fall and are anticipating a post-Tony announcement once theatre availability is more foreseeable.
This temporarily satisfied my longing for info, and hopefully it helps some of y'all out, too!
