They are making a very wise choice to wait a season, clean the show up, and try next year. I remember next to nothing from it, so I hope this gives the creative team time to add some WOW to the show.

I loved the show at Papermill but still agree that they are making the right choice to wait until next season and take time revise. It also wouldn't be smart to have the show compete with Hamilton since Andy would be involved with both.

They're not coming in for a full year. Pretty much every Broadway theater is currently booked; what will be available next year will rely heavily on what does -- and does not -- succeed this year.

Larry, I've been on this board for a long time and also have worked in this industry. 90% of the time we get a press release announcing a show is GOING TO BROADWAY without dates or theater, it doesn't happen. I'm just saying.

I work in the industry (present tense), and I don't find it especially strange that a theater hasn't been determined a full year (at minimum) before the production plans to come in. So I would question your 90% "statistic".

I'm sure whichever theatre owner they have lined up will have noted what is coming in, and what would be lined up or available after that current show has closed.
Side note, can someone tell me what is slated for the Neil Simon Theatre after The Illusionists? Updated On: 11/5/15 at 04:42 PM

I won't be able to see this at Papermill, so I hope it does get to Broadway next year with all the revisions that people say it needs. I'd like to see Laura Osnes in an enjoyable show again. Maybe this time she'll win the Best Actress Tony? (Tumblr. users STILL whine about Bonnie and Clyde...)

this show needs a lot of work.

I'm guessing they're hoping to get the regional rights pumped up cause I can't imagine this lasting longer than a few months on Broadway. It's just so dull.

Flawed as it was, I'd rather see Ever After again.

In actually pretty excited. I love Laura and Corey a lot, so im glad they'll be back on the great white way. I didn't get to see it, but I heard it needed some work, so hopefully waiting a year will give them time to clean it up so it does well in Broadway.

Why in the world is this coming to broadway? I can't imagine this ever morphing into a great show without an enormous overhaul of the writing and a completely different director helming it. I left this show quite underwhelmed despite some wonderful performances from the actors. I hope they have the courage to tackle serious rewrites. And to tack on to what has been said before...they are probably announcing in the hopes of acquiring other investors. When/if they have the capital, they'll seek an actual theater. Sigh. I hope this one turns out well, but knowing the state it's in now, I can't imagine it last more than a few weeks.

the show got respectable reviews so far, and andy blank is no idiot. im sure there will be plenty of changes to the show. and if the show says its "coming to broadway" then its coming to broadway. Its when they say "broadway bound" there are no guarantees.

It really is deadly dull. Paper Mill should do it right next season with a revival of "Over Here!" with Emily Skinner & Alice Ripley.

Jucie Booty: (I'll just ignore the name) Andy is no idiot? Well, his any choreo and his 9 to 5 choreo were all pretty awful. So..... doesn't mean he knows how to direct a new musical.

Wouldn't the fact that they're already announcing Corey and Laura at this point also show that it is almost definitely coming? I mean, they wouldn't announce the leads if they didn't already have those two under contract, right?
I think it's great news. I haven't seen it, but it got promising reviews out of Paper Mill. And it's a totally original, uniquely American musical starring two of my favorites!

I just got home from the Paper Mill and saw this thread. I loved the show and couldn't be more excited! I put off seeing it after reading all those negative posts earlier on this board, and I'm so glad I to have seen it. Although I agree it's a work in progress, the opening number could be a bit more of a victory celebration, the show picks up soon after the band takes center stage. Laura and Corey were wonderful, especially on the final number "Welcome Home". I could see a best book Tony as well.
Also, as I was leaving the theatre I could not help but notice a large number of limos waiting out front with NY plates. A lot more than usual.

everybody has failures and thats normal, but he's not an idiot in the sense that im sure he knows the show needs changes, and shouldnt be rushed to broadway especially in such a crowded season. I havent seen the show but it doesnt sound like its DOA. The reason for out of town tryouts is the try it out. It seems like you cant even have an out of town tryout without people saying that the show is in trouble and already labeling the it as a failure and that nobody should continue with it. They could make a lot of huge changes in a year so chill out!

I just want to nit pick one more thing: as a Polish American I can tell you that there is no letter V in the Polish alphabet. The lead character Donny Novitski should be Donny Nowitski. The W is pronounced as the English V. Same thing happened in the tv show All in the Family with Mike Stivic. Do your research writers, that is if you care at all about our sensibilities.

The writers have done their research. Donny's grandfather would have changed the last name to the American spelling upon coming over in the early 1900's.

I thought I was going to miss this! I'm so happy for the creative team! Corey is so awesome and so is Laura! I know this is going to be great especially in its final revised version.
