From today’s Briefing: The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation, The Musicalwill premiere this fall at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, followed by an engagement at Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars prior to its arrival on Broadway at a date and theater to be announced. The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation, The Musical was previously known by its working title, Broadway Vacation.

I'm predisposed to questioning anything Ken Davenport does (in terms of both quality and financial performance), but the idea of the Griswalds being fish-out-of-water on a vacation to Broadway could lend itself well to some fun setups and perhaps even some skewering of Broadway's elitism. Or it could be a kitschy drag from start to finish! Will entirely depend on the writing, staging, and performances.

Wonder who will be in it? The Fall 2019 reading had Will Swenson, Kerry Butler, John Ellison Conlee, John Behlmann, Jordan Gelber, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Joanna Glushak, and Jeff Hiller. The Fall 2021 reading had Hunter Foster, Kerry Butler, Ben Wang, Daniela Rodrigo, Alan H. Green, and Andy Grotelueschen. (Assuming Andy G and JE Conlee played the Randy Quaid part?)

The Griswolds' Broadway Vacation, The Musical will make its debut this fall at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre from September 10 - October 1, followed by an engagement at Houston's Theatre Under the Stars from October 25 - November 6 prior to its arrival on Broadway (date and theatre to be announced).

Ken Davenport said, "I couldn't think of a better place for the Griswolds to start their journey to Broadway than Seattle's 5th Avenue Theater, and taking a cue from this adventurous crew, continuing the developmental journey at Houston's Theatre Under the Stars. Can't wait to throw our bags in the family truckster and head out!"

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, The Griswolds' Broadway Vacation, The Musical will make its debut this fall at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre from September 10 - October 1, followed by an engagement at Houston's Theatre Under the Stars from October 25 - November 6 prior to its arrival on Broadway (date and theatre to be announced). Now according to an Equity casting notice, the musical will first get a NYC developmental workshop June 6- July 1.

This is wonderful and hilarious. My friend co-wrote it so Im totally biased but it's A LOT of fun. Catch it in either city if you can!
