I bet the cover artwork will be something new that matches the logo they'll use for the MTI logo pack.

Very happy that they'll be using the terrific Continuo Arts Symphonic Chorus from the Paper Mill production for the recording. It will be integral to the stock and amateur licensing of this musical, which may not belong on Broadway but will certainly have a strong life elsewhere.
Does Michael Arden still believe his work on this show was "all for nothing"?

The Disney produced JUNGLE BOOK in Chicago received no recording, even a reference recording,
That incarnation was never intended for licensing, since a different version available for licensing already exists (and there is a reference recording). I was referring to properties that have never received the full treatment before. JUNGLE BOOK is not in that category. HUNCHBACK is.

Does anyone know when they're going into the studio?
I imagine they'll take their time releasing this since there's no rush to get it to the merch booth at the theatre. That's if they even release it. MTI has lots of reference recordings that are not commercially available.

I suspect the purpose of the recording to generate interest in new productions . . . and well, to preserve this cast.

Yes, because cast members of a show are totally gonna tweet about recording a reference recording and not a cast album.
James Snyder vlogged about recording a reference recording. It's not like it hasn't happened.
THEY HAD BETTER RELEASE IT

Bumping again. Just caught the end of the Lincoln Center livestream with Alan Menken and he says that Hunchback is "going to be done all over the world" which makes me think other productions are in the works. But is there anything on this recording? Any rumblings?

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up Matt.
I didn't know ghostlight was doing this one.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSS
Curious it's not going to be a Disney release though.
the cd cover is so lame. It should of said "(American Premiere Studio Recording)" on the damn cd. and it's white.
I highly doubt this is official the cover art. It's most likely just a mock-up. A placer while the real cover art is being worked on. It doesn't come out till November so they have a bit of time.
I'm excited! It's a fabulous score and I am extremely excited to have this album.

By any chance, did Alan mention anything about Newsies?
This news made me so happy. Today I was just reminiscing on how much I love this score. Definitely one of Menken and Schwartz's best, if not THE best. A wholly underrated masterpiece. *drools*
Furthermore- the casting of a role as terrific as Frollo's could have gone very wrong- but they selected Patrick Page. And he did it. I've had the pleasure of meeting him too, a very nice guy.
People just love to throw around the word masterpiece like it was a synonym for good
I know the difference between "good" and "masterpiece." And I feel that by the standards set by animated movie soundtracks, the material in Hunchback is in a class of its own. That's just my 2 cents...

AKA we will never see this show on Broadway? I am going to be kicking myself forever for missing it at Papermill. I live in NYC too so it would have been easy.
I hope they use the La Jolla logo! The best one I've seen for this production.
I just wish someone had taken the time to put thought into a studio recording of the German version in English. I'm almost positive, darker aspects aside, that if licensing was the overall goal, the German show was a version that would get more licensing requests with its streamlined storyline closer to the film, especially from schools and venues with younger audiences, than this... creation... that decided to kick up the Victor Hugo a notch and attempt to be Les Mis.
I'm not familiar with the German version, but the Papermill production was completely humorless and oppressively grim.
I am beyond thrilled about the cast recording as I love the score though.
