Jerry Mitchell for LaCage, hands down! A credit to Les Cagelles.
Scenic will probably go to Chitty, which I havent seen, but for $13 mil, what do you expect? I'm just disappointed Little Wonen didn't get a nom.
I haven't seen enough plays to comment.
The past few year I've worn the t-shirt from my favorite show on Tony night for our little get together. Last year it was Avenue Q, 03 was Hairspray, and 02 was Millie. This year I'll be wearing my "stolen" t-shirt from DRS.
My picks are very biased and not based on who I think will win but who I want to win. :o)
Best Play - Doubt
Best Musical - Monty Python's Spamalot
Best Revival of a Play - Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
(My pick wasn't nominated. :o( I was hoping for Reckless.)
Best Revival of a Musical - Sweet Charity
Best Special Theatrical Event - Laugh Whore
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play - Brían F. O'Byrne, Doubt
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play - Cherry Jones, Doubt but also Mary-Louise Parker, Reckless. I'm torn!
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical - (again I am torn)Hank Azaria, Monty Python's Spamalot OR Norbert Leo Butz, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (I love Norbert!)
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical (Again! I really can't decide!) - Christina Applegate, Sweet Charity OR Sherie Rene Scott, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play - Alan Alda, Glengarry Glen Ross
Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play - Heather Goldenhersh, Doubt
Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical - Matthew Morrison, The Light in the Piazza

Best Direction of a Play - Doug Hughes, Doubt
Best Direction of a Musical - Mike Nichols, Monty Python's Spamalot

(not a fan of any of these really. Spamalot by default.)

<-- is also pulling for norbert.
Ya'll can jump down my throats for this- but I would love to see Sutton Foster take home her second tony...I saw Little Women for my second time last night and even more so than when I saw the first preview performance, I was captivated by her sensational portrayal of the role. This woman is the real deal when it comes to acting- every beat, every moment, is just perfect as she dominates the stage. Her voice is in fine form, soaring to the last row of the mezzanine- her physicality is impecable, her choices strong and comitted...Witnessing her on the Virgninia stage triggered a respect for her and a love for her ability to perfect her craft- she surpassed my expectations and Sutton Foster in my opinion is "ASTONISHING"!
Like wickedrentq, I'm only doing musicals...

Everyone is saying Mike Nichols for Spamalot. I'm saying Lapine for Spelling Bee because he's never won a Tony for direction, and I think they might remember him this year. Nichols has won 8 million Tonys, DRS just isn't great enough for Jack O'Brien to win (again), and Bart Sher is a newbie.
