Her only downfall of the night was her clapping along with Rent! Oh well, I guess she couldn't have it ALL.

Posted: 6/15/08 at 11:25pmgreat performance, great actress, awful speech IMO. is she really as obnoxious in real life as that speech made her sound? her rapid fire thank yous peppered with her complaining about how it's been 28 years was totally lame. i really almost wish she didn't win (even though she deserved it), just to see if she went on a murderous shooting spree in the radio city music hall when somebody else got the award.

I think her "what the hell is going on" face during RENT was obviously in response to the HORRIBLE sound job that was going on with the microphones. I was doing the same thing at home.

She created the role of Norma Desmond in 1994.
To be a major star, an actor has to created new roles.
And Patti is a Broadway legend. So what's your point?

That was the best moment of the night for me.
Note that the ferocity of the "SHUT UP! IT'S BEEN 29 YEARS" did succeed in keeping them from cutting her off! I want to know what would have happened if they had!

Theatre is a safe place to do the unsafe things that need to be done.
