I don't think the Kerr is an option as Doubt is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

"They may make the smart decision to close the show in the black...unless they find a suitable name replacement for Christina."

Sweet Charity is far from being in the black and has not made back its investment yet. If it closed when Applegate left, it would have lost money.

I don't see any of the formentiond shows closing anytime soon. I think Jersey Boys will at least last until the Tonys, unless it just can't find its audience. I imagine it will get decent reviews. And there is no way that they would put Wedding Singer in the Hilton, its way too big for the Wedding Singer.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

I feel Adamgreer is the only here who sees (and understands) the Wei$$lers as I do.

I don't see them giving up so easily. If anything I do see them trying out Ringwald on tour, to prepare her for a Broadway stint in the role.

If Charity is doing the best it ever did right now in Broadway's deadest months, I would imagine it can stay strong in the winter.

As I've stated earlier - lets not forget the role of Herman and even Oscar are easy parts to stunt cast. Neither are dance roles, and a passable singer is fine in the role (O'hare's singing is less than stellar, can't come close to McMartin's singing.) Now, the roles of Nickie and Helene are not as easy to stunt cast - they both call for a trained dancer and singer. So I can definitely see stunt casting those two male roles to help the sales.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

From a good source, the Weisslers are indeed planning on closing CHARITY in New York and sending the physical production on national tour next year (where it will probably recoup). So unless they want rumored tour star Molly Ringwald to do the show for a month or two in NYC, it appears the production will close with Applegate's departure at the end of year.

Thus, it looks like WEDDING SINGER will probably go to the Hirschfeld afterall.

ljay I agree with everything you've said thus far, except however...

"Now, the roles of Nickie and Helene are not as easy to stunt cast - they both call for a trained dancer and singer."

I agree that its harder to stunt cast these roles, but let's not forget they already have. When I saw the show in Chicago the two ladies playing these roles were Phenomenal. That night they got replaced for the Broadway run by the current cast who, while they have made names for themselves in the broadway community aren't as gritty and edgy as the original two ladies. In my opinion that's stunt casting! (just not in the traditional sense) They still got replaced by people with bigger names.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

Kyra DaCosta is not a bigger "name" than Solange Sandy. I'd say Natascia Diaz is a bigger "name" in the theater community than DaCosta is.

LaManna may be the most established of the four, but she's far from a name that means anything to the public.

It's not as if Sandy and Diaz were replaced by Michelle T. Williams and Melanie Griffiths. They found solid replacements.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

I have heard the Weisslers are NOT planning to close the show. They are looking for the right replacement right now, but if they can't work out a deal with a replacement, they will indeed have to close the show - but as of now they have NO plans to close the show when Christina leaves.

And this is very true news.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

to throw another rumour in I honestly heard that Sweeny Todd was placed in Eugene O'Neill on a temp basis as a smaller venue couldnt be found and with the Wlter Kerr free from early next year they will tranfer Sweeny into that theatre and perhaps leaving The Eugene O'Neill free for Wedding Singer.

I always thought Sweeny was too small for that theatre - it played at one of the smallest venues in London - a smaller home will secure alonger run too.

Sweet Charity i still think has a few more season left on Broadway.
To be honest, next fall, i t wouldnt suprise me if The Producers came off.

A Chrous Line i think could go into The Hilton, or Poppins

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

POPPINS is going into the New Amsterdam.

CHARITY may have more time in it...but not a few seasons. Maybe one more if the right replacement is found.

I think SWEENEY was perfect in the Eugene O'Neill...it wasn't too big of a theatre for it. You're forgetting the London run didn't have a name like Patti LuPone to sell tickets. SWEENEY could have a healthy run in the O'Neill.

as much as i *LOVED* Sweeney when I saw it on Saturday night (Michael and Patti were brilliant and I felt like I was watching a live work of art), I don't think it will last until the Tony awards...I really hope I am proven wrong.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

SWEENEY is selling well. Patti LuPone IS apparently a name draw outside of show queens. Her contract is for nine months (one month after the Tonys) and the show has such a low running cost, I would think they'd be able to keep it open even though traditionally SWEENEY is not a big seller.

I'm sure reviews will be a big deciding factor.

thanks for the update michael. i am so glad Sweeney is selling well and i hope it does last through June. everyone should get a chance to see this incredible production...i will definitely go back for a second time after it opens.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

i think charity can stay easily, just based on the replacement potential (need i remind you all of the laundry list of actresses who did readings at one point or another; marissa tomei, jane krakowski, etc.) and if all else fails i'm sure charlotte will nedd something to do while robin givens is playing her role.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

Yes, but CHARITY won't stay afloat with Charlotte. That's why it closed out of town.

And that "laundry list" won't want to do the show on Broadway as a replacement. They couldn't do it as the original star, what makes you think they'll want to replace someone?

but foa thanks to the new tony category hearing the words "christina didn't get the tony for this but you could" might inspire some of them to come afterall.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

Yes, but they need to sign on for a minimum of six months.

If they couldn't do six months at the very start...I doubt they would do it now.

But, if they have the time...I say go for it.

re: THE WEDDING SINGER: Has an opening date...but no theatre.

Any replacement for Christina won't be eligible for the Tony.

ETA: Beat me to it, FOA

ETA again: Do they need to be signed on for 6 months? or have played the role for 6 months by the cut off date?
