Oh good, we needed a 563rd thread about this.
lol of course someone had to come in and ruin my vibe
the entire production is out there to watch. It's not particularly good. The Wolfe version is cluttered and unfocused, but of much more interest, especially with the score. City Center's Encores! off-Center is reviving it this summer.
So, how does this work, Philly, do you just not "believe" in the bisexual character(s) in The Wild Party?
does anyone think people are interested in bringing this show to broadway after city center???

I agree that the score is pretty great. I much prefer Lippa's score to Lachiusa's, though I think Lachiusa is overall a better composer -- I love many of Lachiusa's scores, while Wild Party is the only Lippa score that I enjoy.

I feel like you're drunk or high right now - everything is SO AMAZING!!!!
Sadly, I doubt anyone is interested in taking this show, which had abysmal reviews and a short-lifespan off-Broadway, to Broadway. The show has found a new life thanks to its stars gaining popularity post-run, but enough to stage a full Broadway revival without those same stars?
One of my biggest theatre-related dreams is to attend a simple concert staging of this, with the original cast. I've mentioned this to Lippa, Murney, and Menzel (briefly, in passing, over time) and (as would be expected) everyone said "yeah great idea maybe someday etc."
Kinda fun to note, a couple years ago, when the convo was had w/ Menzel, she said she'd actually been listening to Murney's "Raise the Roof" recently - even went on to sing the "ya ya ya ya ya ya ya" line. Was a fun little moment. lol

I have tickets for the Encores production but I highly doubt there are plans for it to transfer. For one thing, Sutton has Younger coming out and while it doesn't strike me as an instant hit, the weirdest things thrive on TVLand so who knows.
I think it might spark some interest if its really great. The same thing happened with Violet last year, and unlike Violet, The Wild Party is actually really popular. Sutton could definitely fit it into her schedule after they stop shooting for season 2 (if it gets picked up, but i feel like this tv show is gonna get good ratings)!
I wonder who's gonna play kate
It really is a pretty great show. The endless comparisons to the LaChiusa version are unavoidable (I prefer that one actually) but this one has many virtues over the other. It's much more focused and atmospheric, as the LaCiusa one is trying to do too damn much (to varying degrees of success). It's a really fun score too, though the music is lamentable lacking in a '20's flair.
It's really quite spectacular. I played Burrs in a regional production a few years ago. A thrilling (albeit exhausting) experience.
My wife and I saw a profession production a couple years ago.
We absolutely loved it. A fairly different approach to the set/costumes from the original. It was set in a art deco apartment and the cast was dressed much more upscale. Madeline was also cast as a tall beautiful brunette similar look to Laura Benanti. So, it was a prettier world than orignal off-broadway production.
I look for any chance I can to see this show. But, not performed very often. Not sure if I can get to Evanston to see NU production in the next few weeks.
