So excited!!! Pasha is one of my all-time favorites and he and Anya are gorgeous together.
(Is it bad that I didn't need to look at the article to know who it is talking about?)

Maks and Karina were only brought in for the first three weeks. It was well publicized and slapped on all the posters that they would be leaving after the 16th.
They are on a hiatus from Dancing With the Stars and wanted to do BURN THE FLOOR during their brief time off.

You clearly know nothing about dance. It's about the furthest thing from crap there is when it comes to ballroom dance.

I don't think it's the dance that's the problem. It's everything else.

Posted: 8/5/09 at 12:25amBut it's a dance show. That's it. If you go in expecting what it is--spectacular dancing--I don't see how you could be disappointed.

Posted: 8/5/09 at 9:43amThat's right. It is a dance show...and I just thought the dancing would be better. It was a huge disappointment (and I guess Isherwood agreed with me).

Isherwood, who isn't qualified to critique ballroom dance in any way. And also, he critiqued the show, not the quality of the dancing. He said all of the dancers were fantastic, and that the choreography was the thing that could have been better.
"But competitive ballroom dancing is more about regimentation than personal expression, both in terms of steps and performance." -Isherwood
While he is partially right about the regimentation part, he TOTALLY misses the mark about the personal expression. Ask any current ballroom judge, and they will tell you that absolute precision is not enough to get you a high score these days. Creativity is key. Personal expression is absolutely necessary. And WAT, you never answered me in the other thread. What dancing on Broadway is better right now?

I don't see much difference between: the choreography could have been better and WAT thinking the dancing would be better. Semantics, really. That WAT didn't seperate the dancers from their choreography isn't a huge deal -- to most of us.
I plan on seeing this next week...actually doing rush for the first time (ever) -- has anyone done this yet?

Posted: 8/5/09 at 10:42amI think the dancing in WEST SIDE STORY is far superior...and IN THE HEIGHTS as well.

Dramamama, I think there's a huge difference. When someone says the dancing isn't good, to me (as a dancer) that means the execution wasn't good. When someone says the choreography wasn't good, that means...well...the choreography wasn't good.
WAT, I don't know whether you're talking about the execution or the choreography of both In the Heights and West Side Story, but if you are talking about the execution, that's absurd. The West Side Story dancers suck. They are terrible. And while the In the Heights dancers are good, I would hardly say their execution of Andy B's choreography is superior to the execution in Burn the Floor. If you are talking about the choreography, however, I would tell you that Jerome Robbins' and Andy Blankenbeuhler's choreography in those shows are very different styles than in Burn the Floor and serve the purpose of their respective shows. That's simply personal preference about which style you like the most. I would never say that the In the Heights choreography is better than the choreography of Contact or the Kiss Me Kate revival. They are SO different. So by all means, enjoy the ITH and WSS choreography more, but don't let your personal style preference allow you to critique a different style of choreography unfoundedly when you know nothing about it.

Yes...TECHNICALLY of course there is a difference, but I think it's a difference MANY people would not distinguish between. To say the dancING would be better could include the dancERS or the choreography. He didn't disparage anyone.
And I'm sorry, he's allowed to critique whatever he sees. If it didn't "do it" for him, so be it. If WAT likes the choreography to WSS or ITH better, fine. How does this affect YOUR enjoyment of the show? You like it, he doesn't. You can't invalidate his opinion...regardles of whether he's "knows" anything about it. I don't see anything in the advertising asking for only Ballroom experts to see the show.

Posted: 8/5/09 at 12:02pmbjh, I personally think that both the actual choreography AND the execution of it is better in WSS and ITH than in BTF. just my opinion...
