I saw this yesterday, and I loved it. The couple on one side of me left at intermission, the couple on the other side was just as mesmerized as I was, and we were still discussing it after when they asked us to leave so they could close TWO-CHARACTER PLAY Previews

I thought Amanda Plummer and Brad Dourif did an INCREDIBLE job -- their lightning-fast changes of mood were WOW, and I totally believed their emotions (which gets tricky, since they are acting within acting)

I wish I could see this again, I can't stop thinking about it and rolling it around in my head

Fosca, you may be able to see it again. I heard that it may extend to or thru Oct.

I thought it was great.

"In his 1973 'Dispensable Foreword' to Out Cry, Tennessee Williams claims to have 'the necessary arrogance to assume that a failed production of a play is not necessarily a failed play' and confesses to his 'depression over the failed production.' Williams had fair cause to feel this way—Out Cry, which took him ten years to write, ran on Broadway for only thirteen performances before being cancelled amid poor critical and audience reactions. Thankfully, Williams was right in his assumption, which becomes clear as one discovers The Two-Character Play (an alternate version of Out Cry) currently running at New World Stages—a kind of post-Beckettian riff on themes that occupied Williams throughout his entire creative life, the play is a wonderful discovery, a remarkable work that seems to have been misplaced for three decades."

Can anyone here please tell me if front row is too close for this production. I've never seen a show at Stage 5 or New World Stages before. Thanks!

Front row is quite close. I would suggest row B or C close to house left. Maybe 2 to 4 seats off the aisle.

Let me just start by saying WOW. I didn't really know what to expect going into this but I was certainly surprised. And pleasantly.

It was beyond a joy to see these two on stage. I've always loved their brand of crazy and getting to experience it in person is a revelation. Is the play great? Most definitely not. Are they? Certainly so. Amanda Plummer was probably the better of the two for me but then again she's always been one of my favorites. I was cracking up at everything she did and said. It should also be said that I was basically the only one laughing. It seemed as the audience I was with didn't understand that this was a comedy and it was ok to laugh. Or everyone was asleep and gone by intermission.

I'm not sure if this is the show for you if you're not a big fan of Dourif and Plummer because it's all about them. The play itself is a great big mess that can be interpreted so many ways. I'm actually debating on going back for another round to see if there is more to glean and also just to bask in their electric performances.
