It's not only "poor Jenn and Josh"..There's there rest of the cast, ensemble, tech crew, ushers, merchandise people, musicians..and so on that are out of a job as well.

As Schumaker said in an interview with the Associated Press, the show is closing because there's no advance.
"I am disappointed that the Broadway production of `Tarzan' will close earlier than any of us had hoped, and I would have loved for it to have been as successful in New York as it now is in Holland," Schumacher said.
"It (the closing) is completely a business decision - I have to run this (`Tarzan') like a business," Schumacher said in a telephone interview. "If I look at how we have been selling through the spring, if I look at our advances ... I can tell that I am going to have a summer where I am going to be losing a substantial amount of money. ... And I don't artificially keep shows going.
"But `Tarzan' is not just one production," Schumacher added. "I have multiple productions of `Tarzan' coming and I have a big successful one running. This production is a loss. But the title of `Tarzan' within our catalog and within the Disney franchise will do just fine."

Rumor has it that Little Mermaid is going way over budget, so Tarzan is being closed to make up for that other Disney financial hemorrage.
Looking at the preliminary designs they have for "..Mermaid," there's no way it's going to be done within the budget Disney originally mapped out (though it is going to be absolutely stunning visually.)
Finally!! It was about time for this show to close. Phil Collins should pack up his bags and never write music for a Broadway show ever again.
The thing that frustrated me the most is that Phil thought that in order for the music to sound African there HAD to be loud pounding drums in almost each and every song!! I hate to break it to 'ya Phil, but that's not the only way.

um i thought tarzan was good, not bad not amazing, im glad i saw it
however when i saw it 1. josh got stuck on the zip line above our heads and stopped the show for 20 minutes and he was like scream and chanting the audience which ruined the show and took me TOTALLY out of it.
2. a curtian dropped that was supposed to mask the tech crew that was taking off the remnance of the battered camp and the curtain broke exposing EVERYTHING and u could see everyone moviing around, and the backstage.
i know technical things happen all the time. its live theatre. thats what is beautiful about live theatre! i just wished i saw a better performance of it to give it a fair chance...
by the way, The Great Mouse Detective would be amazing, has anyone seen that!?
YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!
I AGREE!
it shouldve never opened.
yahooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bring it! bring it!
^I will say the 3 times I saw this show, something ALWAYS went wrong in some way or another. Now, I love when this stuff happens, but for it to happen when I saw it 3 completely different times is just unacceptable. Not to mention the stories I've heard from other times.
I just can't wait to see what's going in that theatre next!

that's so sad.
tarzan was my favorite. =[
ugh, i'm glad batb is going with it though.
it'd be sad just to see tarzan go.
tarzan = <3.
I'm not going to shed tears over this show closing, though its presence on Broadway never bothered me. Hopefully the crew and cast involved quickly find new jobs. I do think, however, that this show would have done better in a bigger theatre. That tiny space behind the set that the actors had to run back and forth through was ridiculous. I'm astounded they were able to do it for this long without killing themselves.
it never bothered me either.
little mermaid is overbudgeted and a very close second is mary poppins.
This cast and crew even have to look for other things to do.
cast open auditions and the crew other shows to work for.
but the crew may help other shows start buliding sets for new shows and all.
To add to my previous post I will add that the songs that were in the movie also were done very well, except for trashin' the camp. I think a major part was not having the elephant (I can't remember his name) in the show.
And to add to the list of cartoons Disney should try I say they should consider ROCKADOODLE! Anyone remember that one? Although now that I am thinking about it I don't remember if that one was a disney movie or not. I mean granted they would have to make some pretty big changes (most specifically with the set locations) I think this would be great!! It is definitley one of my most favorite cartoon movies of all time!!

hi,
i went to see tarzan last night for the 5th time after reading the night before that it was closing.
it is a pretty good show i and really liked it. i can't imagine what happened for disney to do this so soon.
and for people wondering about jenn, last night was it for her and i got that right from her. she is getting married next week and then i guess she is going on her honeymoon. she told me this herself.
teresa
Todays matinee was Jenn's last performance as Jane. I was there and it was a very emotional night for her. She made it through most of the show without tears and they gave her flowers at the end. It was a very tearful goodbye for her, I wish her luck with her future projects and with her wedding and honeymoon =)
There are a few rumors floating around as to why it's closing. Most of them posted on the internet so I'm not sure how true they are but as someone said, Little Mermaid is over budget so they are trying to make up for that. Another one is someone wants to buy the sets to the show from I someone in Europe or something. There are several others as well. It has nothing to do with the grossings. In fact, they were selling really well for most of the summer and sold out for about half of the performances.
wow, that was quick. how long did will it have lasted compared to other disney shows like lion king and beauty?
Awwwwww...Jenn won't be performing on July 8th? So sad.
I guess I'll be seeing Natalie Silverlieb on the 7th at the matinee then. Is she good in the role of Jane?
Figures. I had planned on seeing it in August.
Natalie has never performed the role of Jane before so I don't think anyone know's how she will do. I've seen Niki Scarela and Celina Carvajal....and well just pray you aren't seeing Celina.
The box office is open on days the show isn't performed correct?
