In defense of Taye. I just don't think Fiyero was a good part for him.
His vocals are fantastic on "The Wild Party."
And I've heard he was a FABULOUS Billy Flynn in Chicago.
I actually liked Joey a LOT in the role. He's MILES above David Ayers, whose performance can only be described as a trainwreck.
McIntyre exhibited the "coolness" necessary for the role, that none of the actors had. If Norbert was ten years ago, he'd have been (I still loved him in the role) perfect, but he definitely looked like he could teach at the school.
It sucks that they have had to change the key of that song for the different Fiyeros because it was definitly NOT written to be in that key and just doesn't sound good with the different harmonies. I understand that sometimes you have to change keys to accommodate different actors, but when it compromises the song and the way the composer intended it, that just makes it cheap.
I also saw it when he was in for Norbert. Also saw it when the show had jusst opened and Norbert was just plain better in the role.
i agree ljay...i think taye is fabulous...that part was just not for him..i don't know...even vocals aside...he just didn't look the part to me...he looked too...smart...intellectual, not some fly by the seat of my pants Winkie prince. i don't know. just didn't jam.
Taye had his own spin on the role, one I did not care off. Personally, I find him the worst of the Broadway Fiyeros. Norbert had the finest voice, David Ayers has the correct look and best acting (lol to the trainwreck quote - see him again, hes gotten much better) , Joey was very mediocre imho, and Taye was salvagable. The role of Fiyero is soo underwritten that a different style is needed to inject life into it. Norbert and David's style work for me while Joey and Taye were just the same thing.
I saw David Ayers this past Tuesday- 10/4, and trainwreck was the appropriate word.
Singing was all over the place (and okk-key throughout the evening) and his acting was just plain bad.

I think the clip was good, not great, but good. I thought it was kind of weird at the end how Idina giggled really loudly. I was like "Woah, what was that??"
He really wasn't good as Fieyro. Is it just me or does he sort of come across as a pimp? Just...the hand motions I've seen him do and the attitude..not that Taye is a pimp. I respect him and like him as an actor and a singer..but not as Fieyro.
I didn't so much mind "As Long as You're Mine", but the clip of him doing "Dancing Through Life" was rather painful.
I think Taye Diggs is really very wonderful, but Fiyero was not the role for him.
