I think she'll be fine. While I've never gone to the theatre totally alone I have sat by myself and it's fine and I've even ended up having a nice time chatting to the people next to me. In fact, my mum and I are actually sitting separately when we'll see Hamilton (the evening of 28 September if she's going that night and wants someone to say hi to at interval!).

I used to go by myself on the transit train up to Penn Station and walk to a show all by myself at 15! Your kid will be fine and love you for it.

My mother did this exact thing for me as my senior trip. We flew up in March and she walked me to the theatre and met me at the stage door. Nothing bad can really happen in between those two points. Hamilton was incredible. Just make sure have planned it out and you will be fine. ??

She will definitely find people around her who want to chat, but does she have any friends whose parents would be willing to pay for a plane ticket to go with her? If the two rear mezz seats are the same price as the other seats, then you could just buy those and send her in with a friend if someone is willing to foot the plane ticket. It likely wouldn't cost you any more for a hotel, since the girls could easily bunk together.
I've only sat in the orchestra for Hamilton, but I've sat rear mezz in that theatre for other shows with no problem. It's really not that big, so she'll be able to see just fine from back there.

I've seen $300+ increases in rear mezzanine seats just in the last week (I've been tracking and keeping a log, trying not to screw this up). And I was GOING to go Stubhub because they were so much cheaper than TM...then read the story about the Shark Tank guy. Sure wouldn't want that to happen.
I guess I wasn't worried so much about her safety as the social aspect as she has been flying alone each summer since she was 12 to different colleges for summer camps (TX, NC, MA). But she's a social being and I guess I worried most that she would miss out having someone to experience it with and talk to it about. She is really overwhelmed about the gift of getting to go and I wish I could afford another dang ticket to take a friend!
Anyway, the other "affordable" tickets besides RM, Row G right now are box seats. I know they are obstructed so probably not worth it? I guess I'm going to have to really decide about putting off buying another six weeks or so.
Thanks again for all the help.

I sat in the FM, I think it was seat 25 so it was pretty much right behind the upper box on the house left. (and was a lot harder than I thought it would be to get a single ticket...) The only thing I sort of missed was anything that happened on stage right on the upper part of the set. But there's always so much going on that I didn't really notice too much. But like everyone else has said, definitely wait a bit and see if the prices go down. Unless the RM seats are in the centre, I'd go for the orch or box seats.

I go to the theater alone often....lots of people do. I almost always strike up a conversation with at least one person. She'll be fine, and she'll be able to tell you all about it.
A lovely gift!

Tagging onto this thread - a few questions from an out of towner with two younger teens taking in a Hamilton Wednesday matinee this month.
Both would like to see the Ham4Ham performance prior to the matinee. When and where do people start lining up for that? I do not have a ticket, but thought about entering the live lottery that day just in case. Can anyone fill me in on the when and where for that as well, and again, how early to get to the theatre to register?
When does the house open for matinee shows? As they purchased their tickets from Ticketmaster resale, I want to make sure their tix are valid before I leave them to attend a different show.
Not having the $ for a ticket for myself, I was planning on taking in a different matinee that has a longer run time then Hamilton. Kids were hoping to stage door right after the show, but I'm hearing not many cast members come out after the matinee. Would it be safe for both to wait by the stagedoor afterwards, as I would not be able to meet them for probably a half hour after Hamilton lets out? Would they be able to remain in the theatre lobby, or get t-shirts / programs after the show, or do they shut down concessions afterwards?
Thanks!

House opens 30 minutes before curtain, which is standard. However, the line to go in starts easily getting ready a full hour before curtain. (It doesn't really take that long to get folks in)
BUT....if you got them through TM re-sale, I wouldn't worry....they are fully in control of those tickets. (Stub Hub and the like is a different story, with reason for concern.)
After the show? It will take some time to find out who is coming and and whatnot, so your timing is likely going to be fine. NO, they shouldn't wait inside the theater, they have to clean and prep and get ready for the evening show, and they are not a babysitting service. Yes, your kids will be fine waiting outside the theater for you. Another option, is to find a coffee shop for them to meet you at, they can can a drink and a snack and not worry about weather or whatnot.

When I attended the show, the front of house staff blocked off the entryway to the lobby from the orchestra section after it had ended. Therefore, I would get merchandise either beforehand or at intermission. I don't know if similar restrictions are in place for patrons in the mezzanine, though.

Question- Is it okay for two teens to enter the Hamilton lottery under a parent/guardian's name (with their consent of course) as long as the adult is present when getting the tickets?

When claiming digital lottery tickets, winners are ushered immediately inside, which would necessitate that they both be with the adult when picking up the tickets. I'm not sure how the theatre staff perceive winners passing off their tickets to two others, but I imagine their age would eliminate any scalping suspicions.

I go to the theatre alone sometimes. I take the train from CT and walk to the theatre. I'm in my 40s, but I'm a big pansy and I'm fine. I actually like it. I always chat a bit with the people around me. I think it will build her confidence too. I think it's a shame that you can't see the show too... If possible, I think you should spring for an extra ticket.

I didn't know that. So if ever get lucky enough to actually win, I can't pick up the tickets earlier in the day but only right before showtime and have to go directly into the theatre?

That was my experience. They were quite strict about tickets being released no sooner than 30 minutes prior to curtain. All of the lottery winners formed a line next to the patrons already holding their tickets, and at the 30 minute mark, winners were ushered in to the box office one by one along with their companions if they had one. Then, we were sent right into the theatre.

They do that at Lion king also. Its specifically designed to help prevent scalpers from winning lottery tickets. It's not foolproof but it helps.
