Did anyone see Teri Hatcher as Sally in the Cabaret with Norbert Leo butz?
Was Teri any good? I know Sally doesen't have to be a great singer, but did Teri have a decent singing voice?
So if anyone saw Teri in the Cabaret tour how was she? Also how was Norbert as the Emcee, I heard he was fab.

My friend saw her...some loved and some hated...but, I don't think some people realize that the person who plays Sally doesn't always necessarily have to have the strongest voice (because if the cabaret girl had a great voice, she wouldn't be in the situation where she is).
I saw jennifer jason leigh and I hated, my friend loved.
Teri was fine. but the highlight was "sexy norbert". I have pictures in my fan photos...
I caught Teri's understudy (who was passable), but the mysterious young actor named Norbert Leo Butz completely blew me away! He was completely hypnotic as the Emcee, dominating the show with his intense stage presence. I was thrilled to catch his name on the L5Y recording a few years later.
my friend saw her and she said some songs she was eh but others she was very entertaining. she also thought she held back something in her performance.
I'm not sure if she saw Norbert.

I saw Teri in Chicago...and thought she was one of the best Sallys I saw. She was right in line after Natasha for me. I wasnt a huge fan of Norbert, personally. He was less sexually ambiguous and more lumber jacky I thought...didn't really seem to fit the role.
but the highlight was "sexy norbert".
*faints*
Yes, I saw her in LA, and she was okay. I saw Jennifer Jason Leigh on Broadway and I was underwhelmed by her. Yes the highlight was Nobert!
I agree about Jennifer Jason Leigh--I thought she was terrible as Sally. However, I later saw her in "Proof" and she was much better, but it was way too much of a "film" performance. I was near the back, and she had trouble projecting into the house, both emotionally and vocally (a common problem for film actors doing plays). Funny, because she didn't have that problem in "Cabaret"--the issue was really more one of style. She just wasn't believable, and totally over-acted. Her singing wasn't very good either (although I know that in this production that's kinda what they were going for).

I was really not looking forward to watching the lollipop head Teri Hatcher, but man was I completely wrong about her! I finally found some respect for her...she's the worst actress on tv I think, but she can sing. She can really sing and dance. Then again I could have liked her so much because I had such low expectations :c)

Did anyone see Teri sing on Desperate Housewives a couple of weeks back? It was nice for her to be able to show off her talent and earn great laughs. Very cute!
i was not impressed with teri as sally bowles. nothing against her, but honestly i forgot about her everytime she left the stage. she left no lasting impression. she was very bland and seemed really uncomfortable and nervous on-stage. while it may be true that you don't have to be a decent singer to play sally in this production of cabaret, it still would be nice and teri's singing skills are very limited.
Thanx for replying. So, I think its safe to say, Teri was a decent Sally.b
But, I don't think she is the worst Actress on TV. Considering she just won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy. She is wonderful on Housewives. I also enjoyed the episode when she got to sing a little.

I saw Cabaret here in Chicago. Teri was sick the performance I attended. I had friends who attended another performance and she missed that one too. I seem to recall she missed the entire opening weekend of the run? It struck me as odd, too, that the show had been agressively promoted as "SEE TERI HATCHER....in cabaret" and yet the producers made no apologies or excuses for her absence.
That said, I was blown away by Norbert Leo Butz who gave one of the best performances I had ever seen. And it was indeed a sexy performance. I was certain to make a note of his name and when I was next given a chance to see him perform ("Last Five Years") was impressed all over again. (He was pretty damn sexy in that show too, come to think of it!)

I didn't care for Teri in Cabaret, much preferred Joely Fisher out of the tour Sally's. I agree that Norbert was great as emcee. Had to smile, though, bluewizard, when you referred to him as that 'mysterious young actor'. Norbert was probably 32 or 33 when he did the Cabaret tour. :) I loved him as the emcee (although Alan will always be my favorite in that role), but his Roger is my absolute favorite role of his.
According to an interview with Norbert Leo I found online, which was given at the time he was doing The Last Five Years (2002), he had been in NYC for 5 years at that time and came to NYC at age 28. 33 in 2002 means that he was just 30 when he did Cabaret in 1999. Sounds pretty young to me! Updated On: 1/20/05 at 02:27 PM
Younger than some of the others, for sure. Alan was about 30 when he did it in New York, I think. Maybe a year or two older.
I saw them in Chicago and they both blew me away. I remember when she came out for "Mein Heir" in her corsette-type outfit, I whispered to my mom, "She has NO waist!" To which Mom jokingly replied, "That bitch!" Her acting was GREAT and her voice, though I don't remember any completely stellar moments, was very good. Norbert was wonderful as the Emcee. I was sitting on the aisle and he sat on my lap during "Don't Tell Mama." Thus began my love affair with NLB.

By the final verse of the title song, Ms. Hatcher was gripping the mic for dear life, tears were streaming down her face and she really appeared to be doing everything in her power to stop from having a complete breakdown. It was devastating. Teri was fab.

Alan was 33 when he started in Cabaret. After doing some digging, it appears that Norbert's birthday is Jan. 30, 1967 making him almost 38. Which makes sense because he spent four years at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival while completing his MFA, beginning in '91. He was playing Roger at the Neder in '96. So it does look like he was 32 or 33 when he did the Cabaret tour. Not that it matters, it just made me smile hearing bluewizard say that. It made him sound like a wise old man commenting on this young whippersnapper. :)
Oh I just remember by reading this thread that I did see Joey Fisher on the tour too. I didn't remember her so apparently she didn't give me too much of impression. "The Sally" I wanted to see is Susan Egan's. I'm surprised that after B&B, she hasn't been in a show as an original cast (except Triumph of Love). She's always used as a replacement cast

Had I known Norbert then, I would have purchased a ticket no question. Shame on me.
Had Teri been doing it now or off D.H. filming season (when I believe a tour should be happening - a little after the Broadway run is over!), she would have killed.
DAMMIT!
I thought this meant they were gonna start up the tour again...
OY, I got to go finish my work!
I got to leave, so i've packed my bag and i'm going
I've got a date so don't you ask me to stay
'Cause i'm showing
You were always ready for new wizardry
You must have thought that miracles came easy to me
Take what i gave you and put it up on a shelf
'Cause now it's time for this here wiz to wiz on
Himself
And i'm wizin'
Give me a reason why i should stay and i'll judge it
My mind is made up so nothing you say's gonna budge
It
Y'all copped a whole lot of magic from me
But this, the greatest magic that you'll ever see
If you blink more than one time the kid will be gone
And you will have to hook up the rest on your own
And do you know what i think about that?
Your works cut out for you it's not about if, buts,
Or ands
'Cause when i leave this town i'm leavin' it all in
Your hands
I packed up my clothes and i packed up my power
I'm leaving this place in less than one half an hour
If you look up in the sky you'll know just who it is
It's not a bird, it's not a plane, it's just the
Little ole wiz
And guess who's on after that?
