There is a clip of youtube that it says it's Leslie's own voice. That's the one I watched. It makes sense she was dubbed, because her own singing wasn't good at all."

Leslie Caron did some pre-records for the film. In the end the producers wound up hiring Betty Wand to dub her singing voice. Caron's versions of the songs "The Parisians", "The Night They Invented Champagne" and "Say A Prayer for Me Tonight" were included as bonus tracks on the extended version of the movie soundtrack.

Caron is perfection in the movie; subtly convincing as a young adolescent and subsequently gorgeous as a swan when she becomes a woman. She possessed an unparalleled sophistication and class. A dubbed singing voice is irrelevant, all things considered.

I know it was common for many singers to be dubbed years ago but I would rather have a singer who can act rather than an actor that can't when it comes to a musical.

Totally agree with this. Caron was a charmer. She wasn't considered a singer by any stretch of the imagination - - - but she was a terrific dancer but the role of Gigi was not a dancing role - - - there is very little dancing in the film at all.

Caron is extremely underrated as an actress. Gigi gave her the chance to shine without having to fall back on her talents as a dancer. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for the role but she did not receive an Oscar nomination, which is a shame.

She did receive a well deserved Oscar nomination for her role in the British kitchen sink drama THE L-SHAPED ROOM in 1961.

Most of the marketing was about Vanessa Hudgens and Corey Cott, that's all I meant, drama mama.

The really exciting work (to me, just my opinion) was happening between Dee and Vicky.

I could wax poetic regarding the plight of women over 40 in the entertainment industry, but you only have to look at what happened at The Tony's (Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori's win not being televised) to elaborate on the point.

Women over 40 are not being encouraged as playwrights enough, either. It's something Tina Howe taught me (and she would know.)

From President Obama: "Over the years, musicals have been at the forefront of our social consciousness, challenging stereotypes, shaping our opinions about race and religion, death and disease, power and politics."

The Tony presentations for Best Score and Best Book of a Musical not being televised had nothing at all to do with Kron and Tesori being women, or being over 40. There have been many years when those awards (and many others) weren't televised.

As for women over 40 "not being encouraged as playwrights..." who IS encouraged to write plays? No one is encouraged to write anything. It's something you just do if you want to write. No one is owed encouragement to be an artist.

Wouldn't it have been great to see that award be televised for the first time with Kron and Tesori? I think it would have been really amazing and wonderful.

All my gal pals over 40 agree.

Tina wrote some really wonderful plays, furthermore she works tirelessly to promote young playwrights.

Not to downplay how great it would have been to have seen that award televised, it would not have been the first time. It was presented during the telecast two years ago when Cyndi Lauper won for Kinky Boots.

It was also televised when Kitt and Yorkey won for N2N. I think the trend of NOT televising it is more recent.

But it wasn't televised because of women....They made that decision long before a winner was selected.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
