I love Kelli. Ever since I saw her in Piazza. The woman is an amazing singer and actress. And every year she turns in amazing performances, and every year she loses. She should have won for her beautiful, challenging work in "Piazza." She was a spit fire in "Pajama."

Unfortunately, I fear it will be the same this year. Yes, I know, "she's young...she'll win. One day."

For the record, I enjoyed Patti in "Gypsy" but wasn't knocked out. However, the buzz and the lack of win for "Todd" will probably give her a Tony.

Share your love for the Tony bridesmaid Kelli!

I loved her in South Pacific, but I agree that this unfortunately won't be her year to win.

I actually think she could win. And I hope she does. I really like Patti, but I think Kelli took what easily could have been a pretty boring superficial character, and is giving a very interesting and subtle performance. Either way though I'm sure there are a lot of great things for her in the future.

I feel the same way about her. I think she always gives an excellent performance, and she gets recognition for it, but when will she win the Tony??

I think you have highlighted why I really don't care much for the awards system. There's too much balancing and politicking involved. The idea of "best" is so relative. The world isn't a pyramid where only one is at the top and everyone else eats dirt.

I favor plurality. Maybe they should give as many awards as there are actors/productions deserving of an award. Instead of "best" try "outstanding in the field of .... ( imaginative interpretation etc - tailor the award to the one being awarded). But that's just my opinion.

I just got home from the matinée of SOUTH PACIFIC. I think I've seen all the potential Best Leading Actress in a Musical nominees this season, and my list goes:

1. Kelli O'Hara - Wow. This girl is insanely charming and what a voice. She sounded incredible, much better than the recording of the LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA.
2. Jenna Russell
3. Patti Lupone
4. Kerry Butler

I would LOVE to see Kelli win this year. I just saw SP and thought it was the closest thing to perfection on stage in a LOOONNNGGG time. I thought it was a vastly suprerior production to Gypsy. (I saw SITPWG, too, but doubt that will win)

I am rooting for SP for best revival and Kelli to win BIG time!

I love Kelli and she is brilliant in this show, but the award is Patti's to lose. Patti's performance just can't be ignored.

She is kind of like the Kate Wisnlet of the Tony awards.

I think she has an outside chance this year, and I would love for her to walk away with it

I don't understand all the weepin' and a wailin' to give Kelli O'Hara a Tony, as if she's not a valid performer without one. (Same thing goes on here on this board over Raul Esparza). Bernadette Peters had a 27 year career until she won her first Tony. It took Chita Rivera 30 years until she won a Tony. It took Mary Louise Wilson 43 years. Elaine Stritch, 56 years. Kelli has been on Broadway since 2000, when she came in as a replacement in Jekyll & Hyde. If she doesn't win this year, her time will come.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

If there was any justice, she should have won for Piazza. Such a challenging role and much better than the other winner.

Kelli will be nominated again this year and, unfortunately, she will not win. I agree that this kind of role/performance can easily be overlooked for another actos whose character chews the scenery.

Though Lupone has a Tony for Evita, how long has it been. She's already lost for Sweeney, where she was favored to win, so I don't see the Tony voters ignoring this performance. This will be O'Hara's 3rd nomination, hardly a bad thing at her age. I'd like her to win for a breakthrough performance.
