This so0w title did not entice me,t so did not see this until late in Feb 2007 at the Neil Simon theatre, god its the best show I have ever seen, I walked out of the Neil Simon with my head in the clouds.
Surely Hairspray could not get better seeing this again in London.........oh man it does, Michael Ball as Edna, really rocks, the best Edna ever.
I am lucky I can still see this show in London, however sad it is closing in New York.
Hairspray and Les Miserable is my favourite show of all time, Les Miserable is like a love you have for your parents, Hairspray is a love you have for your girl.
I hope everyone who gets to see the last show on Sunday has an amazing day to remember. I still can't believe such a fantastic show is closing. I'm a bit of a latecomer to the party - I saw the film on DVD and fell in love with the music but only saw the stage version for the first time in London last year with the fabulous Michael Ball. I was lucky enough to get to see the show three times on Broadway in Nov/Dec with the even-more-fabulous Harvey and I'd give anything to be there on Sunday. (Well, anything except the six week's wages it would probably cost to travel from the UK at this late stage anyway).
You Can't Stop The Beat has to be one of the most joyous and celebratory show-endings I've ever seen - and the rest of the show from Good Morning Baltimore onwards had me dancing in my seat like I belonged in Special-Ed!
I look forward to hearing peoples' accounts of the last show. I know being at the last show of Curtains was something I'll treasure forever; the emotion, the camaraderie and the outpouring of love for the cast, the crew and the creative team was really special and I'm sure it will be the same for those at Hairspray on Sunday.
At least I'm lucky enough to have a few more trips to the London show to look forward to - IMHO the beat will never really stop for one of the greatest musicals of recent times.... I look forward to its return to Broadway in the next few years.
Well said Tiggosaurus. And don't worry... I'm sure many of us will be writing reviews after Sunday's show. It's kinda funny. I remember playing "We Go Together" from GREASE over and over again in my living room when I was younger, thinking it was the best ending to a musical ever. Little did I know what would be coming down the road in 2002. Nothing puts an exclamation point on a show like "You Can't Stop The Beat."
ok..so can we talk about how MARC SHAIMAN, SCOTT WITTMAN AND MARGOT LION were ALL at today's matinee?
I was there....won lotto. going againt tomorrow for lotto..and then sunday for closing (already mentioned i had row F mezz. see you guys there!)....
but i met marc and scott afterwards and got a picture with them. they are so kind, and scott was sort of shy. either that, or he was just shocked we knew who he was! lol. they were both so so so sweet though and i am so grateful i got to meet them! they are truly amazing.
Today was a fun show, i will write my review eventually! lotto was PACKED, about 50 people there. i was surprised i won!
saw it Sat. night for a final time. Just as much fun as the first time. Harvey was lovely. To once again know the rush of WELCOME TO THE 60's. I can't think of any chorus that works harder ( except for the ALTAR BOYZ ) It's going out on a high note. and hey , I'll say it ... HAIRSPRAY , you're TIMELESS TO ME
Since 2003, this show has been a huge part of my life. The two times I saw it, I left the theater being incredibly inspired to try to leave my mark and change the world, even in some small way. Oddly enough, I never did see the show at the Neil Simon, but rather the first two times it came to Boston. That doesn't matter to me though. This was such a fun, warm, wonderful piece and it will continue to live on. I really don't care how cheesy that sounds because it's the truth. This truly is a wonderful show and I know it's not gone. The beat will never really stop for Hairspray. It will continue to grow.
Actually, the final show was at 3pm. That's the only show on Sunday for Hairspray. So, unless there is a ton of stuff going on as it is the final performance, it should be done by now.

Hairspray was the show that made me want to go into show business and become a producer eventually. Hairspray the first time I saw it (when it first came to LA) was one of the most magical theatre experiences I have ever had and will never forget. Thank YOU Hairspray team.
Also Marc Shaiman was really sweet to me, so he deserves the world.

What a fabulous show. I'm so dissapointed I never got to see it on Broadway, but I did love it at the Ogunquit Playhouse! I think I'm gonna listen to the cast recording all night.

wow brain spaz.
I think it was saturday and it was ending last night...I don't know...OOPS
I stick to the fact that Laura Bell Bundy was the reason how and why this show has stayed open this long. She's a great performer, and her start in the show really helped platform her as Broadway's new diva.
"I stick to the fact that Laura Bell Bundy was the reason how and why this show has stayed open this long."
Fact?
What fact?
She was only with the show for less than a year.

For those interested, I took some pictures during and after the final performance, and I'd like to share them with you. My memories of last night will live on for years to come.
