The Cast Album Challange!

This wonderful collaborative website is a source of endless info about cast (and film soundtrack) albums. The main database holds 3,807 recordings in all formats: Lp, CD, 45, 78.

AND .. You can create an account there and check off all the titles YOU have, create a wish list of titles you are seeking and its fun to see what other collectors have.

So, my challenge to all you collectors is to get your collection listed and we'll see who has the biggest one.




Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Oy! That's a task even my assistant Stacey refuses to do. I just asked her and she just gave me one of her "are you kidding me?" glances.

Sorry, fella. That's one task NO ONE in their right mind has any time to notate.

It takes a little time but not much...you just go down the list and click on the ones you have.

I dd most of mine on Sunday afternoon but I am going back and adding in some of teh Lp's they are missing.

This is an awesome way to discover albums you've never heard of that have your favorite performers on them. I could waste so much time searching for albums...

Is there some way on the site to automatically check all items and then just remove the checks for the few things I don't have. That would be quicker.

Wow! This seems like fun. I'm starting right now. I will post my collection by the end of tonight.

With CD'S, Cassettes & LP'S (remember them), I have over 500 so it would take too much time. It sounds fun though

Why are Disney cartoons on this list? Soundtracks based on stage shows I get, but Disney cartoons?

It takes less than a second to click on each recording that someone has. I don't see the "way too much time" problem that some do. It would give a well-deserved break from reading and posting on this list re: The Cast Album Challange!

My paltry list. It's small, but I'm proud of it (and keep trying to make it bigger).
My Cast Albums
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

There's mine! It's not complete because, I couldn't find some cast albums on the site and I might have some more lying around the house that I forgot about, but anyway, there ya go!

A meager collection, but a collection nonetheless. I also have "The Great American Trailer Park Musical", which they don't list, but the interface doesn't make it very easy to add to their database.
