I am delighted. Recognizing that I saw Merman and Martin past their prime, I have always felt that there were four people who really deserved to have a theatre named after them who had not to date: Harold Prince, Angela Lansbury, Tennessee Williams...and James Earl Jones. One down, three to go. Jones has been a ficture in my theatregoing live since The Great White Hope, and has never given less that a strong performance, with several being for me 'for the ages'. I even saw him in his early 80s performing Driving Miss Daisy with Angela Lansbury in Melbourne, Australia. That was one I will never forget, along with Hope, Fences, Les Blancs (his gut-wrenching wail at the end of the play remains as frest today as it did in 1969 (or 70). GREAT NEWS, and who cares if comes to be known as the James Earl Jones or the Jones or the JEJ for short. The honor is richly deserved.
Dollypop, I know you love Carol Channing, but REALLY????

Funny, I also walked by today and noticed THE CORT THEATER still prominently featured in the façade and wondered how/when they were gonna incorporate James Earl Jones onto it.

The carving into the facade will likely remain permanently. There are several other theatres with their original (or earlier) names still marked into the facade, and they just leave them there despite the new name. I'm guessing these old theatre exteriors are technically protected landmarks? And/or, they just don't see it as worth the effort to disturb them. But yes, I agree that the carving into the Cart / Jones facade is particularly noticeable.

Yeah, historical landmark, which is why it will still be there. That was the one reason I was anti-this because its's so prominent. But oh well. I haven't noticed it at other theaters.
