Not a tremendous vocalist?
So you've heard her:
"Tom" from Hello Again
"Cabaret" from the Musicality of Kander and Ebb
"Anytime" and "Boom Boom" from Elegies
"When the Earth Stopped Turning" and "I Have Found" from Infinite Joy: The Songs of Intimate Joy.
As well as big vocal performances elsewhere.

I've heard enough of Carmello to know that I'm not a fan. The same way you've heard enough of Shoshana to know you don't like her. THE END.

I don't care if you're a fan or not but to say she's not a tremendous vocalist is very off base. It may be your opinion, but the fact is, notes don't lie.

I think Carolee is a wonderful vocalist and a great actress. I was merely responding to whether or not she was a "star" in the vein of Peters or LuPone, to use two contemporary examples. Both of them could, theoretically, sell a show based on their name alone. I applaud Carolee's committment to new musicals and the genre.

Oh okay, Thenardier. I mean BSo!
If I were to call Shoshana a tremendous vocalist, you would disagree, Bobby. The same exact way I'm disagreeing with you about Carolee.
You people on here can talk smack on any performer, but mention someone that one of you enjoy, and the you-know-what hits the fan. It's ridiculous.

Shoshana has a good voice - but that's all she is...a voice.

I'm not hear defending her acting abilities. A Redgrave she ain't. But saying that she cannot sing isn't true. The girl can definitely sing. I understand that you may not like her voice, but because you don't care for it doesn't mean it's terrible. Not your taste, maybe?

I would like to see links to these "reports" about Shoshana's attitude. I have honestly not come across this. Have you actually seen this, or just going by what some random probably purposely misinformed poster has said?
Furthermore, I am a fan of Shoshana, but that does not mean that I don't appreciate other genres and styles of singing. I too, am a big Lansbury, Peters, and Rebecca Luker fan. I also like Carolee Carmello too - she was incredible in Urinetown. I just happen to appreciate talent and encourge those who have talent to do well and thrive.
Shoshana is a rare talent, with an incredible range, versitility, style, and technique that is not seen or heard amongst younger performers these days. She can sing with power, and ease, and not demonstrate to us in the audience that she is "WORKING" so hard for us. To me, that displays talent, and technique.
Not to bash Idina, but a couple of times when I have seen her, I had been worried whether or not she is going to have the stamina to sing one of her big numbers. An audience member should not have to worry about something like that, but be drawn into a performance, instead.
So, say what you want about Shoshana, she has the goods to be a successful performer. And I personally, would love to see her play Fanny Brice one day. Why not? She certainly can sing the role.
Cheers,
The Balladeer

If Sho wants to pursue a R&B career, I all can say is good luck. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out. She should be lucky she made it this far on broadway.
On a side note: I didn't know Carolee graduated form UAlbany. My brother graduated from there last year and he got his newsletter today. I was flipping through and there she was in a picture talking to other UAlbany alums after a show. I just thought that was cool

We'd give you links, but Bean'o Rama took them off her website.
She made comments on there, and the other reports come from people who have met her at the stage door.

love it.
Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

So, I think Idina has the best T#'s.
And she can belt Qb's like nobody's business.
What do y'all think?
