I saw the original cast. They were so dead on the money vocally (Except Idina's small voice crack during Defying Gravity). I see the touring company this tuesday. I have put the obcr away so that I don't have it in the back of my mind when I go on Tues. Since I know the music by heart, that will be hard. But I am looking forward to seeing how well this show transfers on tour.

"It's in horrible shape - the ensemble, the principles, technically...they changes some lines and some staging and it doesn't help."
What did they change BSoB?

the Bean Poles are young kids; they don't know any better
why else would they still continue to support her when she basically blow off some of them?
3 girls started her "official fan club"; they started it with a free message board; they were all happy that she gave them the "official" go-ahead
then guess what happened?
someone else named Ashley started a website with a bunch of stuff which must have really impressed SB; and before you can blink, that website was now the "official fan website"
the 3 girls from the "official fan club" not be outdoned then got their own website
for crying out loud, after she dissed them the first time, I'd have waved bye-bye

I saw Wicked a couple weeks ago. Let me just say that Megan is spectacular. Her voice is amazing. Shoshana has a good voice but there was something annoying about it. It was the way she would shape her vowels that just irritated me everytime she opened her mouth. I think her best song was...umm...'No Good Deed.' But thank god for Megan and Ben. I really can't wait to see Stephanie though. December cannot come soon enough.

I'm glad Megan is getting good reviews... she sounds like she deserves them. I never hear anything but good stuff about her and what a nice person she is!

I really wish I could've gone to the stagedoor but we had to leave
But she just seems like a really sweet person.

I love how EVERY single Wicked thread turns into a [insert cast member name here] [choose either love/hate] thread.
No, really, I do enjoy it.
ANYWAY, to get back on topic, once Ana leaves, Kristy Cates, the standby, will most likelylikely be taking over.

Just to throw in my two-cents...
I've seen Wicked three times (it just sort of happened, no, I'm NOT a tween, yes, I do know and love many other shows, and, gasp, a lot are not even musicals!).
Anyway, I saw the OBC not too long after it opened, before the Tony nominations and the craze hit. I knew that Idina had gotten the Tony nom. for Rent, but that was all I knew about her. She sounded great, acted it very well, and her Defying Gravity made me cry. Kristen I recognized a little more (her win was more recent than Idina's nom.), and her comedic timing was impecible (sp?).
The second time I saw it was with the tour cast. I had seen Stephanie J. Block in Boy From Oz, and was looking forward to hearing Elphaba's songs done with a more clear tone (not that I dislike Idina's, it's just different). I thought that Stephanie did a good job--she had a little more of a nervous energy to Elphaba, and her voice did not dissapoint me. Kendra was out that night, and Emily R (I don't remember her last name) went on. I felt like a trader for feeling this way, but I liked her interpretation (acting wise), even better than Kristin's! She had this little girl quality to her that reminded me a lot of a girl I used to babysit. She did this great bouncy thing when she'd get excited, and I liked that she made the role her own.
The last time that I saw it was the Chicago cast, and I thought that Ana did a very fine job. She played the youthfulness more than the others, and her acting was very moving. I did not like the Glinda (Kate Reinders?). I felt like she missed a lot of moments and laughs, rushed a lot of things, and was trying to imitate Kirsten.
I think that Wicked can be a very moving show, if it's cast right. From what I've heard, the Broadway production could stand to pay a little bit more for a more experienced actor. Elphaba and Galinda are roles with soo much depth that the tweens just don't see yet.
Anyway, I guess that turned out kind of long. Sorry about that!

i enjoy and appreciate shoshana's vocal talent
i am not a teenager
nor am i a girl
so, what does this make me then?
wicked has an overwhelmingly schwartz/contemporary feel and demands contemporary vocalists. why is it that many people think that the (beautiful!) kristy cates does not suit the role of elphaba???? because she has more traditional vocal technique with a clear classical tone to it
clearly, everyone was bored when they started this thread.
don't pigeon hole or stereotype people - it's the biggest mistake a person can make in life

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending.
The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

I'm almost scared to say this, but I really like Shoshana. I'm almost 21 and I'm very familiar with Broadway. I love Bernadette, Liza, Julie, etc. Sho is not on their level (but who is) and her attitude sucks, but I think she has an amazing voice. You can disagree with me all you want, but the fact that I have a difference of opnion does not make me uneducated.

For all of the Idina bashers out there, pipe down. After seeing her do Elphaba three times, each time better than the previous, I haven't had any desire to see anyone else do the role. But, and that is a big hope, Ana Gasteyer comes to NYC. She was so friggin good in Reefer Madness, I envy all the Chicago people who have had a chance to see her.

Jeez, I first thought this was a new dance or something when I read the title. Does anyone want to humor me and try to think of some dance steps for The Elphaba Shuffle? LMAO...
