From what I've heard (I've never met her), she is nice to her fans. She just has a crappy attitude about Broadway in general.

I saw a past JLT and Idina show, and I thought it was great. I was so worried after hearing the OBCR and thinking nobody could match Kristin. JLT was vocally superb and a fine actress. Well, I'm taking friends to see it in a week or so, and I am very concerned. I have heard samples of the StringBeans voice, and although the range seems to be there, it's just not right. Even in her own music, there is very little emotion and soul in her voice, and she lacks that raw feel and power that Idina had. It just seemed to me that in all clips, promotions, shows, etc that Idina did...she might not hit the perfect note everytime, but by golly she'd give it all she had. I respect that! So, although I have heard great things about Hilty, and I'm looking forward to seeing her...I am very uneasy about the Elphie. Also, much love to Rue...and it's an honor to see her perform, but I cannot for the life of me visualize her in this role.
Another little note: Someone said that Bean dislikes Broadway, and she's all about the R&B, and will not return...but look at Idina, she was all about her music and did not set out to become a big (She's not yet earned her star in my eyes...that's for the Merman's, Carmello's, Peter's, Lupone's, etc) Broadway actress, but she did...and I agree, it would be stupid of any person in that situation to dis the Broadway life (ie don't bite the hand that feeds you).

I love JLT. That post made me think about how much I miss her. Her and Idina had better chemistry than her and Kristin.

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending.
The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

You don't have to like Idina and Shoooooyesterday just because they are friends. Idina may not let you sit with them at lunch period, but she will still let you pay 100 bucks to see her in a show.
Shodoesn'tlikeBroadway, well, doesn't like Broadway. She's said it a million times. She's rude to some, if not many of her fans, and this was waaaaaaay before any of us called her out on this board, which we don't even know if she reads, or if she can even read. Just kidding. Breath.
You can be a bean pole, fine, but please, try some other shows and performers on for size. I'm not saying all of you only like Wicked, but there's a big chunk of beanpoles who don't know anything other than Bean'Orama and what color green she puts on every night. Did you ever think you may just like the idea of Beanburrito, and not the actual execution?
In comparison to most Broadway performers, past and present, Beantheredonethat just doesn't hold up! She's a pop performer, with minimal acting talent. And again, her stinky attitude doesn't help matters
I think it's just a combo of her marginal talent and her really really bad attitude that make use dislike her so much.
And of course, we are all entitled to our opinion. But remember, beanpoles, your opinions will always be more respected if you at least look like you tried to spell check your posts.
And seriously. Shoshana Bean is a performer. If she doesn't want people judging her talent then she shouldn't be a performer. That is part of being in the public eye. Sure she deserves privacy, we give her that. We've never discussed her private life in depth, or anything to that extent. She is a celebrity (a minor one but still) and she is in the public eye.
If you don't want people to judge your talent, remove yourself from performing, because this is nothing compared to the music vultures that will circle around her if she wants an R&B career.

I'll give you most of those name, but not Carolee Carmello. No offense, but as much as I like her, she shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as those other women. And, to be honest, I think Menzel is more of a "name" than Carmello. A hell of a lot more people saw Wicked than Parade. And, Menzel has a Tony. Carmello doesn't. Maybe Lestat will be her big break. I hope it is. I think she's wonderful, but she's not a star.

Most of you contributing to this topic are ridiculous.
You don't even KNOW Shoshana....I have happened to meet her, and she was nothing but nice and appreciative of what she's had.
Shoshana is a very talented young woman, and I wish her all the best in all of her endeavors. Maybe her heart isn't with being on Broadway, but to say that she has no talent, and that she would never make it in the R&B industry is silly. What would any of you know about it?
She obviously was talented enough to be bumped up from a standby to playing the role 8 times a week. Why not just get someone else, if she didn't cut it for the producers?
I am a fan of Shoshana's, and not a crazy one, but I find this whole thread unfair as it is thriving on nonsense and hearsay.
Cheers,
The Balladeer

Carolee isn't a big name, but in reality, Idina isn't either. Not to 99.9999 percent of America who has no clue who she is.
Carolee is a great talent. We weren't listing names based on boxo power.
And no I don't know Shoshana, but that's my point. She is what she presents to the public. That is the image she will carve for herself. THere are tons of reports about her being as snot, as well as reports of her being nice. She needs to stick to a an image, because that is what she is going to be known for.

Carolee most definitely cannot be in the same sentence as Merman and others. I don't get what's so great about Carolee. I don't think she's doing anything that any other middle aged performer couldn't do.
With that being said: I enjoy Shoshana's voice very much. The first time I saw Shoshana as Elphaba, I wasn't too keen on her interpretation. I had already seen Idina so I was comparing the entire time. Then I went back and saw her again and loved her performance. I've come to love Shoshana's vocals.
And you people get wayyy too into this verbal bullying thing. It's one thing to express one's opinion, but to make a 6+ page bashing a performer is a bit much. You bitchy queens need to take a break from your computers and go outside and get some air.

Carolee is one of the most respected, nicest, well reviewed stars on Broadway.
If Carolee is a Lobster, Shoshana is imitation krab.
Listen to Carolee's recorded performances, from Intimate Joy and Elegies to Parade and John and Jen. She is a powerhouse with a huge voice, and a wide emotional range.
Most Beanpoles don't like her because they only respond to to a more modern voice, ala American Idol.
Carolee also has a firm dedication to Broadway and the new American musical, something you can't say about Shoshana.
Listen to her "Tom" or her notes at the end of "Anytime" or "I Have Found" and try to tell me that any "middle-aged" performer can do that. Hardly.

I just LOVE when people come and yell that we have a 6 page post anti-shoshana...yet how many threads are there anti-Idina, anti-Donna, anti-anyone else.
Get over it.

Just because I enjoy Shoshana doesn't mean that I only like the contemporary vocalists of Broadway. I'm a fan of Patti, Bernadette, and Angela as well. So don't judge me based on my liking of Miss Bean's talent.
Carolee is not a tremendous vocalist or actor, in my opinion. Me saying that pisses you off the way same I get pissed when you constantly bash a performer I enjoy. It's all a matter of opinion.
