Not all of them predict every category.

BEST ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
Patti LuPone, "Gypsy" - Denton, Gardner, Lipton, O'Neil, Riedel, Sheward, Winer
BEST FEATURED ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
Laura Benanti, "Gypsy" - Gardner, Lipton, Winer
Andrea Martin, "Young Frankenstein" - Sheward
BEST FEATURED ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
Daniel Breaker, "Passing Strange" - O'Neil
Boyd Gaines, "Gypsy" - Gardner, Lipton, Sheward, Winer
I hope Boyd can take it! And I don't know what Sheward is thinking for Featured Actress.

I wouldn't count Martin or Fitzgerald out...at this point, I think Fitzgerald has the better chance of winning.
Also, Best Book for IN THE HEIGHTS? Huh? I loved the show but the book was obviously it's weakest aspect as most critics pointed out.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 6:57pmI think In The Heights deserves at least one Acting award, I hope it's Robin! or Lin!
#3re: The Expert's Tony Predictions...
Posted: 5/15/08 at 7:45pmWell, hopefully that won't happen as LuPone, Benanti, Gaines and Szot are all deserving in their respective categories.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 8:06pmNo matter how good they are all three leads won't get noms.
#5re: The Expert's Tony Predictions...
Posted: 5/15/08 at 8:12pmUmm...all three DID get nominated.

lol. I think he meant all three won't win.
But I think they CAN and SHOULD.
#7re: The Expert's Tony Predictions...

They absolutely should.
Why would they not win if they're delivering the best performances? I don't get that logic.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 8:38pmWell Patti and Laura are brilliant but Gaines doesn't deserve a Tony in my opinion, and I really don't thin they would give all three of then the award. They probably want to spread them out more. Laura may get it but Patti definitely has it.

It's all to do with respective categories though. Patti is turning out, arguably, the best (certainly the most lauded) performance of the three, but her competition is the feircest of the categories. Boyd may not be giving the greatest performance of his career, but he's not fighting anyone really fantastic.
I would not be suprised if all three got Tonys, and I doubt Gypsy will win anything else.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 9:45pmAn Arthur Laurents upset would be pretty crazy awesome. But it's not likely.

Uh, you make it sound like he has no competition - sorry, not the case. The other nominees ARE fantastic performers.

-- "I really don't thin they would give all three of then the award."
But why not? If the voters feel that all 3 are the most deserving, shouldn't they give them the awards? And we don't know that they'll get the votes, but I'd be willing to bet that they do. This is some triplet we're talking about here.
-- "They probably want to spread them out more."
But why? If their performances are considered the best by the voters, they are going to get the awards. Spreading the wins out for the sake of spreading them out would be ignorant.
Also, remember that the Turnblad family swept 3 acting categories in 2003. Spreading them out wasn't necessary then and it isn't now.

The Cabaret revival at Studio 54 also won three acting Tonys.
The original South Pacific won all four acting Tonys in Musicals.

Posted: 5/16/08 at 1:10amAndrea Martin as Featured???? Maybe Olga and Loretta could win over Benanti, but Martin? Don't think so.

I think if anyone is going to beat Benanti, it's going to be Merediz, and to a lesser degree, Sayre.
Merediz has been replacing for years, and she finally has the chance to create a role, and she delivers.
Benanti's just starting out her career, and she's really your cookie cutter white ingenue. She will have plenty of opportunities to win a Tony. She can really be cast in any role. Merediz, not so much.
The voters may take all of that into consideration and vote for Merediz.

Posted: 5/16/08 at 1:33amThe first time I listened to "Paciencia y Fe" on the demo, I got teary-eyed, so needless to say, a win from Merediz would make me happy.

"Uh, you make it sound like he has no competition - sorry, not the case. The other nominees ARE fantastic performers."
Of course they're fantastic, but there's no show-stealing performaces in the featured actor in a musical category. There's no one who has been discussed as a front-runner since the beginning, like in other categories. IMHO, its not that interesting of a fight.
